dafunkystar As an avid concert-goer who has worked in radio and film production, this show just stinks. characters lack depth, the editing and scene pacing is questionable. everything is formulaic. why add in two full songs per episode? the characters are obsessed with name-dropping pasee 'legends". YAWN. for a group of people who are supposed to be so cool and interesting, they are totally lame, boring and one-dimensional. no chemistry between the actors, the stories fell flat and were thinly veiled.this could have worked as a thirty minute show. cut out the drama and stick to writing good, sincere jokes about the music industry. there's so much great real-life music-industry material to choose from, cameron crowe is nothing more than uninspired.
feenyfaye I love this show. Don't even understand why it was canceled. Clever stories, great cast, excellent music. It was amazing.I just watched all of them again on showtime, cried watching regs' montage. Laughed at the funeral, seemed like a real one. I want to know what was going to happen next.
tomer G let me open this review by saying that music was always my greatest passion and music artists are some of my greatest heroes, that and of course movies and cinema. I was 16 years old when Crowe present me with the groundbreaking movie "Singles" that capture the grunge music generation with a one of a time soundtrack from bands like Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and many more... the movie was the right mixture of drama, music, comedy and romance that only a true music lover can make. and then came "Almost Famous" that kept the same delicate essence. This series is (for me) the 3rd part in Crowe's musical trilogy, a group of roadies works for a band in a city state tour, a real hard job that keep you out of a normal family life where the tour buses are your home and the actual family are your co-workers, the pay isn't much so why keep going? they all have one thing in common, their passion for music, the same passion that drove Crowe on an early age to become a traveling journalist for the Rolling Stones magazine (the "Almost Famous" movie story). so.. is that series any good - sure is!, if you loved Crowe's other movies this one is the right series for you, if you are a true music lover you will identify with the characters and your heart will fill with warmth every couple of minutes.
Vincent Romero This show is so terrible that I decided to wrote my first IMDb review. Where to start? I guess from the beginning would be best. Firstly, the constant name dropping on the show is abominable. Every character in every episode drops celebrity musician names. Everyone from skynard to Gwen Stefani. Secondly, every episode also Contains random people Luke Wilson used to hang out with talking about just how WILD and CRAZY he used to be when he was a drunk. That particular actor might be the least likely person to have us believe was ever such a wild uncontrollable heathen. Also, they worship these music acts that make cameos on the show as if they were the God damn Who (which they name drop the Who in an episode or 2). These no name hacks couldn't sell out a Starbucks, let alone an area. Every single one of these minor characters is written as some kind of philosopher. It's horrendous. They all have to give speeches about the "deeper" meaning of things. You also can't watch an episode without really really wanting to inflict all kinds of bodily harm to Wes. The clueless sycophant that kiss the asses of all the washed up has beens that grace the show from time to time. There's 2 love stories going on, neither of which are that interesting. The only likable character on the show, the rest of the characters make out to be the asshole. Look, I could go on and on but I shan't. I'll finish with a, I can't believe Abrams and Crowe would ever attach their good names to such terrible garbage. The writing is awful, the characters are insufferable and the idea that the writers insult everyone's intelligence is a giant insult to roadies everywhere. I personally know roadies, they're not this. Not by a long shot.
