itg1910 Did not know that this series was filmed at all. but since I changed from Rogers to a stilt dish,, I can see this excellent program. Living in southern Ontario, around the places where the show plays it is great to see what the first settlers must have had to live with,I really think that was a great undertaking to bring something like that to the screen.I have seen all the programs now at least 2 and some 3 times, and I enjoy them every time,It should be on CVD I would buy them, for my kids and also shown in all schools in the district. for history lessons.thanks again to all the actors to bring it so much to life.the traveler
dthdc1 When I first saw this program, I knew this took place in the 19th Century and they used the words "THE WAR" and "Yankees" a lot. So I knew they were referring to a war against the Yankees but being an American, I thought this occurred after the American Civil War. (Remember even today in the South, Northerners are referred to as Yankees.) But then I noticed the clothing, styles, and even weapons were more akin to the early 19th Century than the later period. So then I realized this took place in Canada and the War was the War of 1812. I still found it intriguing. I knew York was the old name for Toronto and that there was still concern that the US would attempt to annex Canada (just as there was still fear in the US that Britain would still attempt to reconquer the US). But overall it was fun to watch as it helped me to understand Canadians further.
blakeney-1 This was a wonderful show; educational, entertaining, lively, well-acted, and one you could easily watch alone or with your whole family. The basic premise concerned a scottish family who emigrated to Canada during the early 1800's. The characters were sympathetic and well-rounded; the episodes were well-written and interesting, with just the right dashes of occasional humor, suprise or suspense, etc.The Campbells was one of the major bright spots for me during the 80's and I've been hoping for years that the show will come out on tape. If and when it does, I would strongly recommend it to anyone as a worthwhile viewing experience.
LSC-3 Reflects pre-confederation life in rural Ontario, Canada. I met an actress who was on one episode. She said it was like going back in time. She was a little flustered by a chicken that flew into her during the shooting! I hope it gets aired again soon. I missed the pilot/first episode and sure would like to see it!
