From some of the one star reviews on this site it appears that Catherine Tate's comedy perhaps comes a bit too close to the knuckle for some. I suspect most of the bad reviews have been written by folks that see themselves in her characters.Anchored on catchphrases (as is much of British comedy), this show gets a bit samey after a while, but the sheer brilliance of the characters, even the auxiliary ones, is mesmerizing. It is also simply dead clever much of the time.I believe the average rating of 7 is about right for this one. I gave it a nine to counterbalance those who seem to have it in for the actress.

I realise that humour is quite a subjective thing but all the same Catherine Tate is about as funny as infant mortality. People say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit but personally I think catchphrase comedy is several steps down from it. Most of her material has been crudely borrowed from other shows, some of which weren't really that good either.Luckily for this stupid ginger harridan the good old BBC like to give out very long contracts as a result of having a few 'stars' poached by ITV about twenty bloody years ago. They never got over it and so the likes of Catherine 'talent vacuum' Tate are given five, ten or even fifteen year contracts. What this means for the viewer is whether they turn out to be any good or not they will be on your screen for a very long time.I wouldn't really care to be honest but the BBC foisted her on Dr Who fans ruining that show as well. She has no talent, no charisma and she certainly isn't funny but you'll be seeing lots more of her I'm sure.

I hate the Catherine Tate Show! I find it rule and cruel, and pointless. Like Little Britain it is lazy writing which goes for either shock value or the Lowest Common Denominator. It relies on catchphrases and one-dimensional characters, such as Lauren the schoolgirl and 'I ain't bothered', the swearing old lady and the forgetful information desk woman. To me it is not funny at all shows that BBC will just invest into anything at the moment. I have to ask where have the standards gone? Where are the original shows like Only Fools and Horses, the Young Ones, Fawlty Towers, Blackadder and even shows like Bottom and Red Dwarf. I think there is also a decline in British comedy in general, but we can come up with better then this. There are still shows like the Office and Peep Show being made and we got movies like Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. I fear a little bit for Doctor Who as well because Catherine Tate has been casted as the Doctor's assistance. I just hope that she doesn't try to hijack it. I am glade that the Catherine Tate Show has ended and I hope the BBC can at least find an original show which can restore their image for cutting edge comedy, and not this tripe!

Only online do I find anyone who will comment that they enjoy this show! I ask around with friends, at work or customers that I speak to daily - I have yet to find anyone who thinks Catherine Tate is anything special.I found myself watching several times in an attempt to determine the reason the BBC directs so much focus and promotion of this show. For a long time she has been a favourite of the BBC, evening appearing in an episode of Doctor Who to destroy that as well.I can sit and watch an entire episode without finding anything remotely interesting or funny. It'll take a lot for me not to laugh, I love comedies and this isn't comedy.Coining instantly recognisable phrases is about all this show is good for. "Am I bothered" or "How very dare you" repeated episode after episode is not funny. Little Britain started off well but eventually fell into the same trap and repeated material over and over.In recent years I can't think of any TV programme that has had me reaching for the remote as fast, as when this comes on. Maybe Big Brother comes a close second, more Junk Food TV for the generation that wouldn't understand talented television if it hit them twelve times in the face with a large cod or halibut. You needn't ask if I would recommend this to anyone.
