The Golden Palace begins where The Golden Girls had ended, in the quartet's now-sold Miami house. With Dorothy Zbornak having married and left in the previous series finale, the three remaining cast members (Dorothy's mother, Sophia Petrillo, Rose Nylund, and Blanche Devereaux) decide to invest in a Miami hotel that is up for sale. The hotel, however, is revealed to have been stripped of all of its personnel in an effort to appear more profitable, leaving only two employees: Roland Wilson, the hotel's manager, and Chuy Castillos, the hotel's chef. This requires the women to perform all the tasks of the hotel's staff.

Reviews

OllieSuave-007 Picking up where "The Golden Girls" left off, "The Golden Palace" reunites Rose, Blanche, and Sophia as they move out of their Miami home and open a hotel called the same as the title. Some funny misadventures derived from the hotel, as well as some good nostalgic moments - especially Bea Arthur guest-starring as Dorothy in one episode. Though funny, this show doesn't quite captures the humor, magic, and spirit of its prequel. It's laughable, but not pure entertainment. Grade B-
AshWink17 I finally got to see this series after being a fan of The Golden Girls for some nearly 6 years on Lifetime for a limited time. I was very excited to see 24 episodes that featured the ladies minus Dorothy shortly after the final episode the Golden Girls. I found it a right old shame that The Golden Girls ended (of course I was only 4 at the time...), but I was delighted to see the series for the first time. While Golden Palace is not exactly on par with what The Golden Girls had... it was still nice to see one extra year unfold with them. There were several good episodes in the series. For example, the episode in which Dorothy comes back for a two parter. While, Dorothy has always been my least favorite Girl (probably due to the fact that she was the one who ended the show). But, this episode did something that made it worth waiting six years to see. We finally, after hearing Sophia talk and whine and complain about how horrible Shady Pines was, we finally get to see it. It was one of those things that just make you a much bigger fan of the show. I was like, "this was definitely worth being a fan of the show for so long!" The other episodes were pretty good, and it was nice to see the Ladies bond with Cheech Marin and Don Cheadle, who are pretty darn good actors and rocketed to stardom after this show. I grew up with Cheech Marin as a character in my favorite movie of all time, The Lion King.If you ever get a chance to watch this series, you need just one thing and that is being a major fan of The Golden Girls.
chester-gray The Golden Palace was not that bad. However the Golden Girls had already run it course. Also one flaw that could not be ignored was Dorothy's absence. Perhaps if she had remained with the show, then it may have survived for a couple more seasons. However it could never have had the same impact on audiences as its predecessor.
Danorgan It was a perfectly good series! Why did they have to cancel it. I still have episodes on tape but haven't seen all. I know Dorothy's loss in 1992 was a hard one and I am glad they tried to keep the other three going. Just because Dorothy was gone, wasn't a reason to "kill-off" the other three! I was outraged when this show was cancelled! I wish someone would air reruns like, once a week! Once a week because there were only 24 episodes and it wouldn't repeat as often. Or lifetime could show it after they show The Golden Girls finale and then start The Golden Girls over again! COME ON!
