Reviews

snafux7 I recently watched the whole series (8 episiodes) on Netflix because I was home sick and needed something midless to watch. The Kill Point fit the bill nicely but I had hoped for much more after watching the opening episode. Basically it starts off pretty well, the opening sequence is well done and feels like a good bank heist action movie with an interesting premise (i.e. the bank robbers are all U.S. Marines). But after the first two episodes it rapidly deteriorates into crappy, lazy writing. There's not a single cliché or trope they don't find a way to work into the plot, its really pathetic to watch. Remember the chemistry between Dirty Harry Callahan and his Chief (the whole hard-ass vs. the cop who does things by his own rules theme)? OK well its been forty years and how many iterations have we seen of that since? How bout the scene where the Feds come in and say 'were taking control of this operation now', how many times have you seen that tired old scene played out? So many times that its become a joke. This is the kind of mess that the writing devolves into and it just gets worse as the series progresses. Probably the stupidest thing about the show is that we are expected to believe that these robbers are highly trained Iraqi-war vets from an elite unit who despite firing off 1000s of rounds throughout the course of the series are unable to kill anyone but are systematically taken out by the Pittsburgh SWAT team and a dumpy Donnie Wahlberg, the hostages are even able to disarm the robbers at one point, it just becomes impossible to suspend one's disbelief. So bottom line is that if you need to kill an afternoon on the couch fighting a bad cold and need some brain-dead programming to watch then this should be just what the doctor ordered, otherwise you can do much better. The first episode or two I'd give a 7 or 8 out of 10, after that, its all 2's and 3's at best.
Jon Indie I'm scratching my head at the people that actually enjoyed this show, and rated it above a 2.. it doesn't really even deserve the 1. I rarely ever hate a TV show or movie when it's in a certain genre that I like. I've seen a bunch of different bank robbery movies.. and i'm pretty sure this is the worst written one I've ever seen. It doesn't keep you guessing, and it's not suspenseful. If you have half a brain you know exactly what's going to happen.. even if you don't have half a brain and you've seen another heist movie.. you can guess what's going to happen next. To the people that think this short series was clever, and well written. I'm guessing it's one of the first action/drama shows you have ever seen in your entire life.what's sad.. is that's not even the bad part.. the action parts in the movie were just so unrealistic it makes me want to find the director of this movie and punch him square in the face. In the shoot out scenes they're about 5 feet away from each other and shooting off 100s of rounds and not hitting anything.. and they're all suppose to be highly trained.. it was just ridiculous. Also the best action scene in this movie was in the last episode where the negotiator was chasing the guy that had his wife.. and he keeps shooting all these rounds at him while he has wife. I'm sure some people wouldn't mind shooting at their wife. but this is a TV show, and he's suppose to care about his wife. So why in the hell would he be shooting all these rounds at this guy when his wife is RIGHT beside him.. what if he hit her? ..also when she fell down in front of the pillar he was STILL shooting at him and the bullets were ricocheting off the pillar and his wife is right in front of the pillar. At this point I was actually hoping one of the bullets did hit his wife.I could continue on and on about ridiculous stuff in this show, but I don't want to give it any more of my time then it's already taken.it's cheesy, unrealistic as hell, and poor action scenes.. don't waste your time.. if you want to see a heist movie. pick any other movie.. I guarantee it's better then this.
tomberlin55 The Idea is great: War Veterans try to rob a bank and the think turns into a hostage situation. But after two or three interesting shows it turned dull. The bad starts with the hostages taking over the soldiers (5 civilian succeed in stealing trained soldiers there guns!!!) and then none of tehme has the guts to shoot! The second stupid scene is when the bad guys flee the bank into a subway tunnel, the police is in the tunnel within seconds, but they don't storm the (then empty) bank to check for the hostages, but leave the retreat free for the criminals! At the end the Sergeant wants to shoot himself, but gets executed by the negotiator, who actually wanted to save lives, stupid... What a waste of time it was to watch the show...
gc_mandrake I had great hopes for this show, having really enjoyed Donnie Wahlberg in Band of Brothers and Boomtown, plus they used a TON of actors from the best show on TV, The Wire... and Leguizamo is always interesting, if a little erratic...But the stiffness of the dialog and plotting really killed this... There were so many missed opportunities, where a truly well-written phrase or moment could have vaulted this into something great! (The toughest part was the soliloquies by the sniper, played by the same guy who does a remarkable job as Omar on The Wire, would babble on... give him some good material, and he would have KILLED it!) Nice try, and since it was a mini, I did end up watching the whole thing, but didn't really pay too close attention by the end...
