Reviews

danielgough1994 The title of this review says it all folks. Jimmy is looking down on us from up above heckling us like Statler and Waldorf, except old Jim- bo is using a lot more curses and slurs. Remember the good old days, the golden years? I don't, I wasn't born yet. But, thats not the point, or is it? Anyways... The Muppets used to be good, but clearly those Hollywood execs upstair in the old Muppet Studios cleary had their eyes turn to dollar signs when they thought up this one. CHA CHING! Thats probably the sound they heard bellow through the barren desert that was their skulls. They should be ashamed. James Maury Henson (That's his full name, I looked it up), didn't create The Muppets to drain every last drop of soul and spirit out of them, but thats what these suits did. I bet you they literally grabbed Kermit by the neck and feet and twisted their hands in two different directions, draining anything they could out of the poor guy. I've watched all (most) of the Muppet films and am a self proclaimed Muppet enthuthiast. My opinion doesn't matter to you, and it also doesn't help that I haven't watched a single episode of this show. So what am I trying to prove? Nothing. I go where I am needed, like Batman. To be completely honest, like most people, I fear change and that which I do not know. I just decided to pick on this show, because I can. Although I am still going to go with my gut feeling here and always for the rest of my days assume nothing positive about this show. The only redeemable thing is that based off the poster the Muppets look to be in it, but like I said in the sentences above, I haven't watched any of it. I very well might turn this on one day and see a bunch of midgets with furr and googly eyes hot glued to them talk in funny voices. In all seriousness though, I am a reasonable person and I doubt what I just said would ever happen (prove me wrong ABC, I dare you). In short, I think I'll stick to the good stuff; the original Muppet Movie, Muppets take Manhatten and Muppets in Space. It's what Jim would want. Before I take my leave, I would just like to say that I am n no way, shape or form a religious person, but I would like to put it out there that this evening I may take a moment and try to connect with Jimmy on a spiritual level and apologize for the mistakes which have been made.
illogic66 I rarely bother 'following' new shows per episode, but this new Muppet show is absolutely hilarious. I liked the original show when I was little-- I was born the year it began, saw all of it and all the movies through late '80s-- but after not seeing it for twenty years or so, I was very pleasantly surprised to find that I find the Muppets a lot funnier now than I ever found them as a child, both the old show and the newer movie and this TV show. For those who say they need a show they can watch with their kids, that show is called Sesame Street. Let the grown-ups have our Muppets too. It's said to be receiving a 'reboot' this spring, and I hope that's a massive overstatement because it's seriously funny as hell and I'll buy the blu-ray and the t-shirt if it stays this way. If it turns toward banal, obvious humor for the kiddies, I'm out.
Wizard-8 Several weeks back, I caught the first episode of this new series. I was pretty let down by the results. But I decided to stick with it for a little while, seeing that sometimes it takes a few episodes for a show to find its groove, and because my love for the Muppets goes way back to when I was a child.I've now seen several more episodes, and to be quite frank, the show doesn't seem to have improved. One of the big problems with the show is that the Muppets on this show don't seem like the Muppets that we once knew. Kermit is now a spineless wimp. Miss Piggy is very mean- spirited and without a vulnerable side. Fozzie Bear now has a human girlfriend, and it's hinted he has sex with her. That last observation about Fozzie Bear brings up another problem with the show - trying to have an adult "edge". I can't speak for everyone, but I think the show's attempts at adult innuendo is, well, both wrong and weird. References to drugs, sex, alcohol, and other such topics seem out of place for these characters. I can understand wanting to appeal to adults, but the ironic thing is that the original Muppet show back in the 1970s appealed to both kids AND adults even though it was squeaky clean. Actually, I might have accepted the more adult tone and the changed characters had the show been funny, but it isn't. While I have occasionally laughed at one of this show's gags, most of the attempts at humor have been lame and obvious. One reason for this may be that the show is more cynical in nature and seems reluctant to have the joy and innocence the original show had. The downbeat nature makes it hard for the writers (or audience) to have any fun.Worst of all, my favorite Muppet, Rowlf, has been demoted to a bit part! Anyway, as I said in my summary line, this show is a real disappointment. I won't be surprised if it's cancelled at the end of the season.
swankykitteh I was super hyped about the Muppets returning to small screen prime time! I honestly had high hopes that my daughter and I might be able to use the show to make a common connection as something amazing from my childhood to now hers as well... What we got? Drug use and innuendos, complicated and adult relationship plots, over the top crass humor. There's even hinting of possible beastiality between Fozzy Bear and his real life actress portrayed girlfriend, in the VERY FIRST episode! In short, this is not a show for kids, and will only lead to awkward thoughts and conversations. Certainly not worthy of an 8pm time slot here in the Midwest. Maybe 10pm or later, but not 8pm. I'm saddened to have seen this day. My childhood has been sullied, and the poor late Jim Henson must be doing cartwheels in his grave.
