Sancy Jeg This movie was not that bad but okay to watch. In this story Jane has been bridesmaid for 27 times and helped all brides in their wedding plan. J A reporter who is Jane favorite too, secretly writes a report on her. and her sister weds Jane's boss but she had a secret crush on him. I think the movie is okay for one time watch.
Ruairidh MacVeigh As far as RomComs or Chick-Flicks go, this film is pretty standard, standard plot, standard characters, standard theme, it really is just a rerun of the traditional formula. But I do give it 3/10 because it isn't as bad as some, with a few genuine moments that make it really quite nice, but sadly offset by a lot of cliché and some downright mean moments. What's the running? Jane Nichols plays a dress designer, who has made Wedding dresses and been bridesmaid at 27 weddings, sometimes having to attend more than one wedding per night. Whilst on the go she bumps into a magazine columnist who has a very cynical view on the concept of marriage. Whilst that's going on, her boss, who she's secretly got the hots for, falls in love with her sister, who pretends to be interested in the same things that he is just to win him over. And just to add insult to injury, Jane's been assigned as the wedding planner. As mentioned, this film falls into the realms of so many clichés, with the usual sort of structure where the girl and boy meet under obscure circumstances, spend the first half of the movie saying they despise one another, find mutual points of interest in the middle and get together, only to have something that goes wrong and breaks them apart towards the third act, but they ultimately get back together in the end anyway. So it's basically just another Notting Hill, only this one has 27 Wedding Dresses instead of a multimillionaire actress falling in love with a travel bookshop owner. There's nothing surprising, no sudden turns, and you find yourself checking-out mentally. The main problem with this movie apart from redoing the same formula, is that there are a few scenes which are just so mean spirited and downright unpleasant. I won't give them away but I find them hard to sit through because they're just so hard to watch. The acting is 'okay' I suppose, the usual sort of RomCom style where one's sarcastic and laid back whilst the other is neurotic and nervous.I will say this though, there are a few genuine moments where the two leads seem to have a bit of fun and chemistry between them, one of which is when she's putting on the different dresses. I personally quite like this scene because it shows the characters having a bit of fun with each other like romantic couples do, rather than just being dead-set serious throughout the entire thing. But aside from that, this film is quite dull and rather underwhelming. I can understand why people would like it though, if you just like to see some of the slapstick moments which do get a laugh out of me from time to time, but otherwise I can't really recommend it.
Dresses27 The contributing factors that made 27 Dresses, a 2008 film, a success for me were the plot, acting, originality, and soundtrack. This movie is your usual "chick-flick" by nature. The plot is relatable to the female audience and a great movie to watch while with your girlfriends. The male audience would maybe find some parts funny like those with Marsden but I wouldn't recommend it for men. Katherine Heigl is a hopeful-romantic in search of her groom. Having been a bridesmaid 27 times in 27 weddings ranging from themes like scuba to classic, she is now ready to search for a groom of her own. She has done everything for each and every bride that she has been a bridesmaid for. She secretly is in love with her boss, Burns (George), and believes that he is the one. While daydreaming about her boss, Marsden comes along with his charming ways and tries to weave his way into her heart. Heigl's character is so sidelined by her love for George that she doesn't see it. Along comes Akerman (Tess), Heigl's sister, and Burns immediately falls in love with her. Akerman then asks for her sister to plan her wedding and puts her on track to be the bridesmaid in her 28th wedding. What's one more, right? Wrong. Heigl will not let him go that easily and pulls the crowd with her and she takes on the challenge. Heigl (Jane) and Marsden (Kevin) combine to create a comical yet beloved couple. Their use of wittiness makes for the perfect dose of comic relief in the sometimes awkward situations and it adds to their charm. They are sent to go shopping for Tess' wedding registry and decide to scan all the ugly things in the store to get back at Tess. There are some cheesy lines every once in a while, most frequently from Akerman (Tess), but is not unbearable for us viewers. The originality of the film is what really drew me in. Like I said before, the film definitely follows the outline of a traditional romantic comedy, but not one that is completely predictable. The emotions of the film made it seem like I was on a roller-coaster, but was hard to foretell. In the beginning you have hope for Heigls and Burns' characters and then it quickly fades when Marsden comes into the picture. There is a feeling of hopefulness in the relationship between Marsden and Heigl since there is a spark between Burns and Akerman and the emotions continue from there. The soundtrack is very appropriate to the film and the events in it. The songs are rather catchy and may lead you to sing them for the rest of the night. After watching the film I was singing "Bennie and the Jets" until I went to bed! 27 Dresses is a film that I would recommend to any female and would make for a great movie on a night with the girls. If you are someone that likes movies like The Proposal or The Wedding Planner, then you would like this one as well. While they all have to do with the idea of marriage, they were all either directed or produced by Anne Fletcher. This film will be one of my favorites in my collection and able to hold its own against the others. If I were to rate this film based on my liking out of ten stars, I would give it nine stars.
mattkratz This wasn't too bad a movie as Katherine Heigl plays out the old phrase "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride" in her character. She seems to be a professional bridesmaid and has the title 27 dresses (even attending 2 weddings in one night!) to fit those weddings. She is attracted to her boss, who reveals that he is engaged to her sister. Jealous, she sets out to try and sabotage the wedding. One night, she shares a cab with a journalist and accidentally leaves her book behind. The guy learns about her secret and writes about her. Of course, chaos ensues, and it's hilarious and good chaos. Fortunately, it's not mean-spirited chaos.I think this was a funny and well-cast movie, especially in the lead roles. Heigl was good in the lead, and if you like romantic comedies, I recommend this one. It is good either for date night or for the whole family. Everyone might like it! *** out of ****
