This movie is stupid. The worst part is that it's just so boring. They couldn't even make blood spurt in the right direction. The house being the space ship was stolen from Rocky Horror Picture Show. FAIL.

Peter Jackson is now known as an Oscar winning director for his great efforts on the Lord of the Rings trilogy. However, Peter Jackson didn't always produce high budget epics. He started with low budget films, the first of which was the 1987 horror comedy Bad Taste. The story features a group of boys who have to stop evil aliens from harvesting people into food. It's a simple premise done with a low budget and loads and loads of gore. The film is so gory I wouldn't recommend this film for the squeamish. However, if you're like me you'll be laughing at how over the top the violence gets at points. It's not realistic in the slightest and that's why it's so appealing.Peter Jackson had a hard time selling the splatter movie to the New Zealand Film Commission but he managed and now it's become a cult hit. This film combines horror, action and comedy into a consistently entertaining film. You can clearly tell Peter Jackson and his friends had a blast making Bad Taste and the energy and passion is all evident on screen. Bad Taste definitely lives up the title, it's gross and ridiculously funny at the same time. It was a great start for a filmmaker who went onto bigger things
but I'll always have a soft spot for his schlocky yet fun low budget films.

Giving this title an accurate review is actually hard, and why is that? It's because this is a movie that you should look from two different perspectives really. The first one is the regular movie one. The movie is really cheap with cheap humor and cheap special effects. The second one is the "So good it's bad" one.Bad taste has always been a movie i enjoy watching, but i know what i get when i watch it. It's not Citizen Kane. But it is not Evil dead 2 either. Its a movie that falls short when it comes to either gore, horror or anything else. That is why i know i am pretty unbiased when it comes to giving this movie a six out of ten.The movie is crammed by everything in the horror genre. You have zombies that are chasing our heroes, however later we get the insight that they aren't zombies but aliens. Our heroes kills most of the zombies/aliens whom infested the town and move onto the big bad zombie/aliens boss. This is where the movie actually start to get good for me, before this the only skit i found really good was the guy that imitated a machine gun. This movie is not for everyone i can tell you that right now, its a movie where you have to enjoy a cheap B-movie. As i said, this is not Evil dead where a casual viewer would enjoy it for the comedy. This is a hardcore B-movie in the lines of Plan 9 from outer space or Robot monster.

This is a great movie. Its everything a video nasty fan will love. Peter Jackson began his career with it.It has action, silliness, blood, aliens, guns, Kiwis and an assorted array of weirdos; in other words more Kiwis. It has anti government jokes and a big fat spaceship that looks like something that is usually shot into toilets. This is Peter "Lord of the Rings" Jackson's first film. If you loved the irreverent humor that he brought to those fantasy films, you'll warm to seeing where it came from. This movie started it all. It was shot on his parents farm making it an inspiration to many young filmmakers. This is a cult classic and for good reason.
