This film tells the story of three Brooklyn policemen who have very different career paths. One is undercover, another is rogue and the third is about to retire in a few days. Their paths cross unexpectedly and tragically in a separate incidents that converge into one."Brooklyn's Finest" somehow does not keep me interested in it. The characters are mostly unlikable and unsympathetic, and I cannot connect with any of them. Their world and my world are vastly different, and I cannot relate to the characters at all. As a result, I could not get into the story at all. I find the story convoluted and lacking in an emotional climax despite what happens at the end. Perhaps the film is a good film, but it is not for me.

Great movie, and surprisingly so. I expected your average common-or- garden cop drama. Instead I got a gritty, well-thought-out drama, which poses many philosophical questions, and highlights some of the moral issues police face. Solid plot and good direction by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, King Arthur, Tears of the Sun, Shooter). Characters are developed well and intrigue and pace are maintained well. Direction feels like a mixture of Michael Mann and Quentin Tarantino.All-star cast - Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Ethan Hawke, Wesley Snipes, Vincent D'Onofrio, Ellen Barkin - delivers in spades.Worth watching.

The movie follows three cops in Brooklyn. Sal Procida (Ethan Hawke) is desperate for money for his family and is willing to kill for it. Eddie Dugan (Richard Gere) is a suicidal loner drunk who is about to retire and is assigned to mentor rookies on the beat. Tango Butler (Don Cheadle) is an undercover cop told to bust Caz Phillips (Wesley Snipes) who once saved his life.I really like Gere's performance as the rundown cop. It may be that I find his character the most compelling. It would be perfectly fine to only follow his story. Director Antoine Fuqua has shown his skills in this genre. However Cheadle's character is a bit too cliché and Snipes is channeling from another era. Hawke is also not quite that compelling. He needs more intensity or more pressure. Of the three stories, I like Gere's the most and Cheadle's the least. It all averages out to a middling movie.

(52%) This feels to me very much like a more crime related version of 2004's love or hate best film winner "Crash", with its similar themes surrounding both the good and bad things all people are actually capable and willing to do. On a plus side it's nice to see Wesley Snipes in a solid production playing a real character, and he's actually quite good here. So too is the cast in general which has bags of experience, star power and talent. On the down side though this overall is a touch too ploddingly slow and about 20 mins or so too long, but the interconnecting ending is worth the wait even if it is a little too neat and contrived to be necessarily all that believable.
