adi_2002 A group of party peoples arrives by boat on an island also called "Pleasure Island" in order to have fun, drink beer, smoke, getting high and have sex. They all seems to enjoy themselves until some of the teens are chased and killed by a masked man. Now some of them form a team and tries of defend from the killer to get away from the island alive but it hard because they don't have any idea who might be the killer so they can't trust nobody. Will they get away or they will be catch by the mysterious killer? Club Dread it's a horror with funny moment but not quite an comedy. Some of the kills are gory and the scene at the end is overmuch (for the Uncut version). You could watch this one day, not give it too much importance and it will not be a total waste of time.
Nancy Callahan Broken Lizard's Club Dread is about a resort on the coast of Costa Rica, where a lot of partying and heavy drinking/drug(ab)use takes place between hundreds of collage students celebrating Spring Break, as well as the resort employees. When an apparent and unknown killer is slashing off the resort staff one by one, the resort breaks breaks into chaos. Now what I found amusing about this film is that:1. It doesn't take it's self seriously at all,2. The characters are, though cheesy and cliché, are fun to watch,3. The actors work well off each other and< though the script is also cheesy and cliché'd , is still amusing. What I felt were the weaker points are :1. Some scenes seemed to sort of repeat themselves too often, more variation in sequence would've made it abit more enjoyable,2. There are A lot of characters, and I found it hard at times to keep track of who's who.But overall I give this film a seven. If I were to be as critical here as above then I'd probably say a 5.5-6* But being a fan of Broken Lizard, I give it a seven. I don't really think it's a like it or hate it movie, it just kind of depends on what you're in the mood for. Fun for with friends :DI hope this was helpful!
Steve Pulaski Broken Lizard's Club Dread doesn't try to pay homage to slasher films as much as it laughs at them by introducing a bunch of oddball characters that are jumping around off their own medicine. The lively actors, beautiful scenery, and suspenseful scenes actually make this one of the few comedy/horror films that I'll recommend.I normally hate comedy and horror mixed together, but that doesn't mean it can't be done well. Maybe I've just been unlucky when it comes to seeking out the right films. Broken Lizard's Club Dread compiles cliché, tired elements from old slasher films and truly makes them work with the cast's quick wit and the stylish directing which goes to Jay Chandrasekhar. The story takes place at Coconut Pete's Pleasure Island, and our host of the same name is played by Bill Paxton in a very Jimmy Buffet-esque manner. Many tourists arrive at the island to have too many drinks and way too many careless hookups. Among the staff is Lars (Hefferman), a chubby man who has the hands for giving a great massage among other things, Jenny (Daniels), the sweet and "innocent" Yoga instructor, Putman (Chandrasekhar), the champion tennis player. Dave (Soter), Pete's crazy son. Juan (Lemme), a sex-maniac who is obsessed with a tourist named Penelope, but nicknamed by him "Pee-na-lope" (Ladd). And Sam (Stolhanske), the fun police of the island. There learn that a killer is on the island, and is killing people in rhythm to a song written by Coconut Pete years ago called "Naughty Cal." The song has shocking parallels to a number of the murders, and only makes more out of such a small thriller.Among the counselors, I think Lars and Putman where my favorites. Lars is sensitive, yet sometimes short tempered, and Putman is by far the quirkiest one of the bunch. Which is pretty much the highest compliment I can give him and the Broken Lizard group. They are a delightful, quirky comedic group that projects a unique type of humor onto modern society. Some love it, others don't.To recommend this film to everyone would be a big mistake. It's a common sense recommendation - if you like comedy and horror, this is for you. If you don't, you should skip it. If you're new to the horror genre, this is not the place to start. Broken Lizard's Club Dread dares to be different, and it works out more often than not.Starring: Bill Paxton, Kevin Heffernan, Brittany Daniel, Steve Lemme, Jordan Ladd, Jay Chandrasekhar, Paul Soter, Erik Stolhanske, Greg Cipes, and M.C. Gainey. Directed by: Jay Chandrasekhar.
dkenney39 I know a lot of people probably don't agree with giving stupid movies like this an 8, but it is actually funny. I was skeptical to first see it because it looked kind of goofy, but since i loved super troopers i thought i'd give it a try.The film is basically about a vacation island in which all you do is party. But when a killer starts running wild, everybody scrambles to find out who is doing this.I think Steve Lemme (Juan) did the best job as the divemaster, just because of his accent and the funny lines that he had. As said by others, most people will just think of this film as an average comedy/horror spoof, but i think it is better than others. At least give it a try to see the hot Brittany Daniel in a bathing suit almost the entire movie.8/10
