rsprengel I loved Joe Dirt, the first movie was quirky, humorous and fun. This sequel, Joe Dirt 2 is a complete disappointment.Yes, the characters, a lot of them, return but the potential for the same type of fun that the first movie served up was completely wasted. I gave it every opportunity to save it's self, watching to the end, and as the movie progressed it only got worse. Stupid humor, no freshness to the story or characters and by the last 30 minutes it really got so lame I wanted to turn it off.I wish I had.You might enjoy this flick if you are a 13 or 14 year old boy, but for everyone else I recommend you not wast your time. Even the music, which in the first film seemed to represent a perfect feeling for the story line, was way off and didn't add anything to save this mess.
reaseltbim The reason I liked the first Joe Dirt a lot was because Joe Dirt was a likable and kind of an innocent character. The first movie had some crass jokes and it had some dark humor in it, but Joe Dirt was always the shinning star of the story. He felt like a real character that was just down on his luck, the humor might have been silly and gross at times but Joe Dirt was still an innocent, Naive, good person looking for his parents. That was the core of the story. A good guy that did not have the best life and wanted to find his family. What do we get here? Just a cynical version of that character.the subtlety of the character is completely gone. This felt more like am actual mean spirited Parody of the first Joe Dirt. there was nothing deeper to this movie than just the jokes and the cameos. Say what you will about the first movie but it at least tried to have a heart underneath all the jokes. What happened to "Life is a garden, Dig It" what happened to that? that's my point. This movie felt like if it was written and Directed by Robbie (Kid Rock) from the first one. The same exact thing happened to the Dumb and Dumber sequel and the Vacation sequel. any kind of innocence and naiveness those characters had was replaced by foul humor. Not sure what is happening to comedy anymore. Everything is just loud and obnoxious today.
MovieHoliks I remember becoming excited upon hearing they were making a sequel to the 2001 David Spade comedy, but then more recently went back and watched it again for the first time in over a decade, and why exactly was I so excited-?? LOL I also was not aware this was going direct to online- was thinking it would be a theatrical release. "Beautiful Loser" is the first made-for-a-website sequel to a theatrically released film. Crackle decided to do this to develop their film studio. The first review I read for this was, let's just say, not pretty...LOL So I had very little in the way of high expectations for this when I got around to watching it the other night. But the film actually wasn't all that bad. It kinda does a take-off on "Forrest Gump" this time around with Joe telling his second story to a lady on a park bench. This time the movies goes into the supernatural a bit with a whole time-travel angle. I would say the most amusing scene in the film was Joe sitting around talking to a teenage preppy young Lynyrd Skynyrd-??- but other than that, unless you're a huge fan of the original, I'd go watch something else, in fact there is probably better original material on Crackle-??
FlashCallahan So there was so much demand from fans to David Spade, begging him to make a sequel to his quite average creation from the early noughties, he felt the need to respect his fans and make this? David, I think you've lost a lot of credit, and by the look on your face in many scenes, I think you know this. The plot consists of many elements from other movies, most notably The Wizard Of Oz, It's A Wonderful Life, Back To The Future, and Scrooged, but with all the heart and soul from those movies torn out and disposed of.I suppose the moral of the whole film is that the grass isn't always greener, and money doesn't buy you love and happiness, but it seems that the makers have just wanted to string a load of insufferable bodily fluid gags together, throw in a couple of strange cameos and hope that it all turns out well in the end.The majority of the cast from the first film are back, probably because they haven't worked in years, and again, several of the cast members look bemused to be there.Daniels to be fair is really good, at least she looks as if she's putting some effort into it.But it's Spade who comes out the worse for wear in this, and after initially becoming annoyed with his characters loser like like qualities, I found myself actually feeling sorry for Spade, because after the Castaway homage, he really starts to look bewildered and embarrassed with everything that is going on.Spade was once a quite sharp instrument, he really made mundane movies like Black Sheep that little more endearing, thanks to his sarcastic traits. But here, it's all gone, Spade just looks so drained, so tired, it's as if the film is a metaphorical on your knees beg to Adam Sandler to cast him in his next film. And this is a Happy Madison production. When a film makes you feel sorry for a multi-millionaire film star, something is seriously wrong.
