creatureofthereel What.A.Movie. Do you like heavy metal? Do you like demons? Do you like gore? If you answered YES to any of those three questions then I recommend you check this movie out. It is face meltingly good. It makes me laugh as I wonder if this is how non metal fans view people that listen/play metal? From past experience it probably is.With a killer soundtrack and some hilarious moments Deathgasm does not disappoint, the stand out moment for me is when Medina first hears Heavy Metal, this is how I believe all metalheads feel the first time they hear it.Fully recommended for fans of films such as Brain Dead, Black Sheep and Evil DeadI am looking forward to what the director brings us for his next offering.
Vijith Vk The movie started off great, but the climax was well... not that great(kinda sucked, but not horrible). But can't complain, since it's a dark comedy intended to purely entertain and that part it does well. Overall, a pretty good dark comedy, that you'll enjoy even more if you are a metal lover(I am). Certainly worth watching.
Argemaluco During the last 2 years, New Zealand has brought us three very competent horror films with very different styles, but with the common characteristic of an intense love for the genre. Or maybe, it was Peter Jackson's spirit (in life) what inspired these movies. Whatever the way it was, it's very appreciated. The films are Housebound, What We Do in the Shadows and Deathgasm; the latter is a very amusing horror comedy, despite some small narrative problems and occasional structural hesitations. Deathgasm is the first movie from director Jason Lei Howden, and even though I really enjoyed his overflowing energy and relentless enthusiasm, I could occasionally notice his incapacity to facilitate the natural flow of some scenes or eliminate moments which don't make a substantial contribution to the narrative. On the other hand, Howden has wide experience as a special effects artist in WETA Digital, something which guarantees an efficient balance of techniques when building exaggerated sequences which bathe the screen in blood. The characters are well written, and the cast knows when to take the drama seriously, and when to become accomplices of the joke. So, in summary, Deathgasm isn't a great film, but it's definitely an amusing experience which deserves a recommendation to those who like horror, comedy and, of course, heavy metal in its multiple subdivisions and ideological tendencies.
ru-harris Whether you're going to love this film to bits or despise its very existence should be pretty easy to figure out. It's called Deathgasm. Its a black-comedy horror centered around metalheads. Its laughing at itself as much as you are.Despite its perhaps limited appeal, Deathgasm does have a lot of qualities to boast of. It was clearly made on a low budget, but the acting, cinematography and effects are all handled with more than an amateur proficiency. However, this is far more a comedy than a horror film. If the references to nerd culture and metal/rock music aren't your thing, its probably not going to appeal to you much. If you're in the know however, there's a lot of fun to be had here.I'm not going to describe the story because its by far the weakest part of the film. Things start off normal and the sinister events build to a climax: that's the basic structure. Possibly the most disappointing part of the story is the lack of a truly solid villain character. The writing, on the other hand, is pretty great. Some jokes land better than others but for the most part this is perfect film to watch with drunk friends (think Sharknado, or the Crank films). If you're a metal fan, as I am, I'm sure you'll also appreciate that the references are not overly ham-fisted. The gore-horror sequences are also entertaining. This is where the budget is most visible, but the director clearly has an appreciation for his craft with authentic Shaun of the Dead and Evil Dead vibes throughout. And the practical gore effects are oh so satisfying. If you're in this film's target demographic as I am, I'm sure you'll at very least get a few laughs. If not, just keep drinking and you'll get there.
