SnoopyStyle Moises (Gael García Bernal) is crossing the American-Mexican border with a group of other illegals. Their truck breaks down and they're walking across the desert. Moises helps those who have fallen behind. The leading group is massacred by lone gunman Sam (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Moises and the remaining survivors are pursued by Sam and his dog. It's a simple man hunting man movie. It's basic B-movie. The premise gets on the political radar and both sides find fault in this. One should ignore trying to make a policy statement from a pulpy B-movie. That's all this is and it can't support more than that. More than anything, I would change some of the events. Moises seems to be the helpful type at first. When the dog first attacked, he should go back to help. Somebody should pick up a rock at least. He seems to be smart and calm. He should be able understand that with a dog, the gunman will track them down one by one without a doubt. Later, there is a moment when Moises abandons Adela. It may be logical but it's ill-fitting emotionally. Those are the only two scenes with which I have a problem. Otherwise, this is simple B-movie and Gael is a great actor.
motile-75907 There are a few good points here, lets go with making a movie about the border jumpers and some of their possible experiences. Stuck in a group in the back of some truck traveling into an area that is mostly unknown land with guides that basically only care about their pay check. It is just like what most would imagine this journey to be.OK, you got that part down, but wouldn't you think that in this modern age that perhaps "some?" of them would have a mobile phone with map storage capability? Is this set in the late 70's or early 80's? Do any of you here, who have somehow found it necessary to praised this bland, sorry movie, have any clue of what you might think a person would do before going off to cross "the border" and attempt to infiltrate to the good ol' USA? Obviously you have not a single clue. Its really pathetic and upsetting that these representatives of a proud intelligent people (Mexicans) are displayed as such morons as to not even know that the sun sets in the west and then be able to decipher which direction would be north, you know, the direction that we want to go... ? It is so sad to think that there was so much that could have been done to make this film interesting and dramatic and gripping and maybe even perhaps slightly "smart"... and then here... well, all I can say is that anyone who gave this film more then 5 stars MUST be paid shills... to speak so highly of this hot mess.I am ashamed for you all... this movie is really nothing but sadly funny and disappointing for all the obvious mistakes and totally missed opportunities. I watched it on Netflix and am seriously thinking of demanding my money back! lol
shmittyfro Desierto is a movie that tries to tackle a very serious topic with a handful of caricatures and two very good actors which are lazily directed. From a purely technical stance it tries to offer up some captivating shots during its first couple of minutes but it becomes quite clear as the movie progresses that Quaron does not know how to shoot a chase sequence, which this movie basically is. It's one big horror movie chase sequence that leaves a lot to desire in terms of dialog and pacing. The most concerning thing is that one leaves the movie without knowing what the directors intentions were. Was it to shine a light on the topic? to make a polarizing movie? to get some sort of radical reaction from the viewer? to serve as a cautionary tale?In any case, it ends up being a pretty tasteless and irresponsible treatment of a serious topic and it doesn't offer up anything else as a possible saving grace.
adonis98-743-186503 A group of people trying to cross the border from Mexico into the United States encounter a man who has taken border patrol duties into his own racist hands. Although the film started actually pretty strong and it was at least watchable for the first 2 acts but when the 3rd act came along the movie just became a tired mess that even Jeffrey Dean Morgan couldn't save it and sure the movie might get a bit political for some but honestly i didn't found any of those people interesting or even had a good character development when the character of Morgan was at least a bit enjoyable and fun to watch but that is the problem with the actual 3rd act because they turned his character into some weak jackass and even the dog turned into a bad cgi balloon. Overall the film had it's good moments for sure but the poorly developed characters and the badly made 3rd act completely ruined the movie. (5.7/10)
