raju-surya39 Although the movie goes around without a proper plot the movie is worth watching only for Brilliant Acting of the Adrien Brody...
jtncsmistad I don't know that I've ever seen a movie more oppressively depressing and embarrassingly overwrought than "Detachment". And I've seen myself a few of 'em.A stunning collection of acclaimed acting talent including Adrien Brody, Marcia Gay Harden, James Caan, Blythe Danner and William Peterson are uniformly wasted in this miserable mess. And that's damn hard to accomplish. It's as if the whole lot of 'em were somehow convinced to participate by Director Tony Kaye with a patronizing pitch along the lines of, "Hey. Let's all make an overly dramatic statement movie that sledgehammers the audience repeatedly over the skull about how the American public education system is egregiously failing our kids. And then, for good measure, we'll toss in some shots at the rotten state of Long Term Elderly Care Facilities while we're at it. Come on. It'll be awesome." The resultant refuse is about as "detached" from "awesome" as one can possibly conjure. There is certainly a high-caliber film to be made that draws desperately needed attention to the authentic and alarming issues raised in "Detachment". And despite apparent earnest efforts, this dispiriting debacle leaves us still wanting.
R S I for a couple of years have been pondering a life as a teacher, having recently graduated from college with only bleak ideas of what to do in this world. This film singlehandedly convinced me not to teach, for I have not the courage to deal with the insoluble challenge that is the American educational environment. I say with no restraint that this is the starkest picture of our underfunded, largely forgotten, malnourished school system I've ever seen. The problems portrayed are real, the solutions unclear, and the teachers thrown into the mosh to deal with it receive little to no support. This country needs to get its act together, but I must confess I don't know how.Reading more might help.
Jelle Lauwers ... but this movie kept me thinking for hours afterward. It's one of those rare moments when a movie's message really gets to you. Everyone is lonely in some way and this fact can be harsh, but soothing at the same time. To me, being a teacher, this movie was very inspirational and contained great morals to over think. If you are one of those prospects, looking for good reviews here on IMDb: don't hesitate: watch this movie now.Outstanding performances of Brody and Sami Gayle, and a well chosen cast in general.
