allyatherton It's back to school and Greg falls in loveStarring Zachary Gordon and Devon Bostick Screenplay by Gabe Sachs and Jeff JudahBased on the book by Jeff KinneyDirected by David BowersThis is just as good as the first film. Once again it's aimed at a much younger audience than me but the kid in me really enjoyed it.It's full of laughs and it's another movie that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. This time the focus is on Greg's laborious relationship with his older brother and he also falls in love with the new girl in town. There's a different director for this sequel but it has the same feel and there's not much difference in how the movies come across. It's just as funny and silly and enjoyable.8/10 I must look out for the third installment.
Adam Foidart For pre-teens, "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules" is OK entertainment, but it never really rises above TV quality. Although adults may get a couple of chuckles out of it, it's really nothing special. The problem is that although a lot happens in the film, none of it really feels like it has much impact, There's no point at which we can really get sucked into the story because the comedy and wacky situations are so broad that it feels like a cheap sitcom. The film picks up towards the last third and it's fun to see Greg (zachary Gordon) and Rodrick (Devon Bostick) causing mischief together and actually getting along. Overall it's not so stupid that you can't watch it with your children without groaning constantly, but it's nothing you would ever watch on your own. (On Blu-ray, September 28, 2012)
SnoopyStyle Summer is over, and school starts again. Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon) falls for pretty new girl Holly Hills (Peyton List). He continues to fight with his brother Rodrick (Devon Bostick). So his mom (Rachael Harris) tries to force them to get along. This is better than the first one. Rodrick is given a much bigger role. It's always funny to have Greg can picked on, rather than simply doing stupid things all on his own. Devon is actually a good actor, and he deserves to have the screen time. It's also nice to see Rachael Harris and Steve Zahn have a slightly bigger role. The humor is still the same Diary style. It just works better with a more 3D portrayal of the family.
ForeverHopefulForPudding The first film was quite a good laugh out loud family film, with decent comedy and good acting on Bostick's part. This film however was nowhere near as entertaining and it seemed to be a very forced, childish film. I do understand that it is from a child PoV so the humour is bound to be childish. The relationship between the brothers was quite entertaining and I enjoyed the prank montage in the car park. The door incident was drawn out and not very funny once the climax of the joke had been reached and was definitely not worth 10 minutes of the films entire run time The ending was quite good though and I did enjoy Rowley(or however you spell it)'s Ke$ha video. Decent but only good for smaller children and only worth a 6.
