This movie opens with a feral girl (Dirce Funari) in a mental facility that bites off and eats a breast of a nurse. Emanuelle (Laura Gemser) is in the facility for a story and immediately starts to investigate. This results in a trip to the Amazon to look for a reportedly extinct cannibal tribe.I'll say one thing for Emanuelle, she is insatiable. She doesn't go one day without having sex. She also seems to have an eye for Isabelle (Mónica Zanchi - last seen with Emanuelle in Sister Emanuelle). Even a snake wants a piece of the action.But Emanuelle is not the only one getting action. They run into a hunting party in the jungle and the wife (Nieves Navarro) gets it on with the muscular native guide (Percy Hogan) in the bushes, while the husband (Donald O'Brien) spies on them.There is even a little nunspoitation as one of the party, Sister Angela (Annamaria Clementi), is the first one caught by the cannibals and gutted for dinner.Sex takes a backseat for the rest of the movies as the cannibals start gutting victims and having a feast. They save Isabelle for a special sacrifice after taking turns raping her. Emanuelle has a plan to save her and, as you might expect, it involves getting completely naked.Cinematography was good and Nico Fidenco's sometimes strange score really added to the atmosphere.

Paul Andrews Emanuelle E Gli Ultimi Cannibali starts in New York where Evening Post newspaper journalist Emanualle (Laura Gemser) is undercover looking for stories, after seeing a nurse have half her breast bitten off by a female patient (Dirce Funari) Emanuelle learns that she was found near the Amazonian jungle & that she bears a tattoo of a long extinct tribe of cannibals. Intrigued by this woman's story Emanuelle convinces her editor Rod to organise & pay for an expedition to the Amozonian jungle for reasons I can't quite understand. Curator of the New York Natural History Museum Professor Mark Lester (Gabriele Tinti) agrees to lead the expedition, once there they intend to travel deep into the jungle but soon find themselves under attack from a local tribe of cannibals who are always on the look out for fresh meat...This Italian exploitation mix of boring soft-core sex & lame scenes of cannibalism is widely known to English speaking audiences under the title Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals & was co-written, photographed & directed by Joe D'Amato. Taking the old adage that sex & violence sells D'Amato takes it to heart & turns in this crappy little mix of soft-core sex & cheap gore effects, without wishing to state the obvious Emanuelle E Gli Ultimi Cannibali is a straight cross between a cheap porno & an Italian cannibal flick. Neither aspect really satisfied me & I must admit I really don't find much to enjoy in your average porno, I am one of those people who simply doesn't get anything out of watching two people having sex on screen especially when it's as tame as this. Emanuelle E Gli Ultimi Cannibali is strictly soft-core all the way, there are no male genitalia on show although there are plenty of dull as dishwater shots of people people groping each other on beds. The cannibal side of things aren't much better, it takes almost an entire hour for the first cannibals to show up & considering the film lasts less than ninety minutes that's just far too long. The story sucks as well, it's like the most basic story of a group of people going into the Amazonian jungle for extremely tenuous reasons & eventually running into cannibals who kill some of them, the end. The soft-core sex seems to be there to pad the paper thin plot out while the horror element is pretty much amounts to some cheap rubber gore effects.I must admit there is one scene in Emanuelle E Gli Ultimi Cannibali which is mildly interesting & that's when Emanuelle & her 'friend' Isabelle go swimming naked together leaving their things on the bank & a chimpanzee comes along, finds a packet of cigarettes, takes one out, puts it in his mouth & then lights up with a lighter & begins to smoke! I seriously doubt that was in the original script & was probably put in here as an odd bit of comedy relief when the makers discovered a chimpanzee who could smoke! Thinking about the scene now it's very un-PC as smoking is now frowned upon & of course animal rights is also a big issue these days so quite what animal lovers think of chimpanzee's being made to light up & smoke I'll never know! The sex scenes are poor, the actors are not good looking (am I the only one who thinks Laura Gemser is not attractive?), there are some awful continuity errors between night & day (one moment it's pitch black & everyone is sleeping the next it's broad daylight) & not even the cannibal scenes can save this. The gore effects are cheap even by Italian exploitation standards, there's a sliced off nipple, two scenes featuring women having their stomachs cut open & their guts removed & eaten, a couple of decapitated heads, a couple of dead bodies & someone is sliced in half off screen.Although credited as being shot on location in the Amazon it wasn't, the dull looking jungle scenes were shot in Italy & it shows although there is some nice late 70's location footage of New York at the start. Originally shot in Italian & terribly dubbed into English the acting probably sucked.Emanuelle E Gli Ultimi Cannibali is a film that I don't like & don't really have any time for, you would have thought a heady mix of sex & gore would make for a decent film but Emanuelle E Gli Ultimi Cannibali proves anyone can make a mess of even the simplest concepts. Nowhere near as good as the likes of Last Cannibal World (1977), Cannibal Holocaust (1980) or Cannibal Ferox (1981).

Witchfinder General 666 Joe D'Amato's "Emanuelle E Gli Ultimi Canibali" aka. "Emanuelle And The Last Cannibals" of 1977 is an extremely sleazy and highly entertaining piece of 70s horror sexploitation, which my fellow exploitation fans will love for its constant extreme sex and gore scenes and, especially, for the stunningly beautiful Exploitation siren Laura Gemser, who once again plays the role of the nymphomaniac journalist (Black) Emanuelle. When working undercover in a mental institution, Emanuelle discovers that a girl must have been raised by cannibals. Emanuelle and Professor Mark Lester (Gabriele Tinti), an anthropologist whom she feels attracted to (of course), travel to Brazil. Accompanied by some other folks, they enter the jungle near the Amazon, where a supposedly extinct cannibal tribe used to live...The gorgeous Laura Gemser is most famous for playing the lead in the 70s soft-core porn 'Black Emanuelle' series, which tried to tie in with the famous (and at the time scandalous) "Emmanuelle" of 1974, and Joe D'Amato directed a few of those film. "Emanuelle And The Last Cannibals" is a very exploitative mix of the constant sex orgies of the 'Black Emanuelle' films and the constant gore of the ultra-violent Italian Cannibal flicks. The result is a vastly entertaining Sleaze flick that no Exploitation-buff should consider missing. The plot is quite forgettable, the movie just constantly jumps from a gory massacre to a sex orgy, back to a gore scene, back to a sex scene, and so on - but who's complaining? It is almost impossible to get bored. The film also has quite a bunch of creepy moments, its main purpose, however is not suspense, but sex and gore. Laura Gemser is, as always, extremely hot, and actually naked for about 80 percent of the time, and the rest of the female cast is not too keen on wearing clothes either. The supporting cast includes the great Donal O'Brien who enjoys a deserved cult-status among fans of European genre-cinema for starring in various Spaghetti Westerns and Italian Exploitation flicks always plays his roles very good. The rest of the performances are rather forgettable, but "Emanuelle And The Last Cannibals" is probably not a film one will watch for the good acting anyway. If you are easily offended never mind this movie, but every lover of sleazy Sexploitation and Cannibal flicks should have a great time. Highly recommended to all my fellow Exploitation-buffs and Laura Gemser fans out there.

Rapeman The undisputed King of Sleaze, Joe D'amato teams up yet again with Laura Gemser for another entry in the Emanuelle series, this time journalist Emanuelle is in the Amazon researching a story on cannibals.While doing some undercover work in a mental hospital, Emanuelle witnesses a female patient cannibalize a nurse's breast. Later on while masturbating that same patient, Emanuelle discovers she has a strange tattoo on her stomach, so she takes a photo of it with her camera-disguised-as-a-doll. She soon hooks up with anthropologist Mark Lester (Euro trash regular Gabriele Tinti) who tells her that it's a symbol of a long extinct cannibal tribe. He then takes her back to his house and shows her some cannibal snuff films before banging her. The two decide to lead an expedition into the Amazon to see if the tribe still exists. When in the Amazon they meet up with a few other folks – one being a nun who eventually gets one of her breasts eaten and then disemboweled and has her intestines munched on too – and then the rest of the films runtime is basically filled with the cast getting killed off by the cannibals one by one.This film pre-dates the other classicks of the Italian cannibal sub-genre by a few years, but although its one of the first, it's not one of the best. It follows the usual formula but drags a bit in places and is kinda dull overall - it definitely comes nowhere close to the raw savagery of Cannibal Holocaust. Although there are a few stand-out gore scenes: the cannibal snuff footage near the start, the evisceration of the nun and a scene where the cannibals cut open a women's vagina and pull her entrails out through it. Plus of course being an Emanuelle / D'amato film, there's a lotta sex. 6/10Oh, and there's also a smoking monkey!
