impulsivebutterfly This movie was laugh out loud funny. I love the pairing of Cameron Diaz and Colin Firth. They were a great duet in this heist comedy. Definitely a refreshing change from the violent heist movies we have come to know in the recent years. If you loved the Ocean's series this was even better! With twists and comical relief you will never guess what is coming next. An absolute must watch!
lavatch This film included three stellar performances from Colin Firth, Alan Rickman, and Cameron Diaz. The heist plot was intriguing, and the ending was stellar! The gist of the film is that Firth plays an art expert in the employ of a stodgy employer (Rickman). Firth's character Deane enlists Diaz's character named P.J. from Texas in a scam to sell a fake Monet painting to his boys. There is some snappy dialogue and especially good farcical scenes in a swanky London hotel. But the best moment is the ending, which make this 90-minute film a gem.Not to be missed!
SquigglyCrunch Gambit follows a man who seeks to get revenge on his employer by messing with his massive, and expensive, art collection. The best part of the movie was the hotel scene. I'm not going to say much more, but it's pretty hilarious, and the whole movie is kind of worth it just for that one scene. The rest of the movie is just fine. The acting is fine, the characters are pretty fun, but not too compelling, and the comedy is only good during the hotel scene really. It's enjoyable but also nothing special. Overall Gambit is a fun movie to watch, but that's about it. In the end I probably wouldn't recommend it.
Scorbutico C Perhaps I am mistaken but I thought the basic idea of a comedy was for it to be funny, and in this regard this film failed miserably. Actors going through the motions, (rescued slightly by the performance of Alan Rickman, who was without doubt the best of the bad bunch). The time you spend watching this film you can never have back, my only recommendation would be not to start watching it, and if you have already started to do so then stop immediately. Dull, dull, dull Stereotypical characters, staid 'jokes' and a predicable story. A director and actors may have got away with such a film in the 70s but such a tired formula doesn't need trotting out now. We almost smiled once hence a score better than 3. Avoid.
