Vomitron_G Easily one of my favorite vampire movies ever (together with Kathryn Bigelow's "Near Dark", amongst others). Since I get the feeling that this movie is a bit under-appreciated, you might get the feeling that my rating perhaps is a bit over-rated too. But can you blame me after having watched one too many crappy vampire movies over the years? Honestly, I love "Innocent Blood". It's a perfect mixture of mafia and vampire stuff, skillfully directed by John Landis. Comedy and horror in a successful blend. A lot of cool cameos (Sam Raimi, Dario Argento, Linnea Quigley...). We have some good actors who went on to act in HBO's "The Sopranos" later on (that, at least, has got to say something). Anne Parillaud is totally up for the part and perfectly believable as a sexy French vampire in Pittsburgh with a taste for Italian food. Some great special effects. Even the romance worked in this flick. Well done John Landis! If you've previously enjoyed his "An American Werewolf In London", then you should do alright having a blast with "Innocent Blood" too.
lastliberal I hate seeing my cousins taken out by a vampire, but it sure makes for a good movie, especially when all your favorite gangster stars are there. There's Richie, Rocky, Carmine, & Paulie from the Sopranos (David Proval, Rocco Sisto, Tony Lip & Tony Sirico), Chazz Palminteri, Robert Loggia, Luis Guzmán, and Anthony LaPaglia in a cop role that he never imagined. There's even funny man Don Rickles as the mob lawyer. If you look close you can fine Yoda, Sam Raimi, and Dario Argento, too.Yes, it has porn stars like Teri Weigel, and a whole lot of babes that took it off to just appear in this film. But, the story was funny with the star of La Femme Nikita, Anne Parillaud, as the vampire that needs sex and blood to survive.Well worth the time invested.
Vincent Black I love this movie, it has a great plot line, the acting is top notch, and there is not one bad thing I could say about this movie. I was watching my VHS today and couldn't help but think that is so much like GTA 3 but GTA 3 was made eight years later. Then I got on here and made the movie video game connections. The mafia crime boss in the movie played by Robert Loggia is called Sal or Sallie the name in GTA 3 is Salvator or Sal. The girls (love interest) in both are Marie and Maria. Also Robert Loggia played the voice of a crooked cop Ray in GTA 3. If you can rent it I seriously suggest you watch the movie and try to remember it was made eight years before the video game. Perhapse it is just coincidence but even the street shots remind me of the game. Maybe the folks at Rockstar got some ideas from the movie, but I think it is better than any crime/horror you will ever see.
moonspinner55 John Landis is not the type of director who goes for any deeper meaning in his films outside of the occasional well-staged car chase in heavy traffic; however, this time, working with Michael Wolk's first-rate screenplay, he excels in narrative as well as in visual form. An undercover cop in Pittsburgh, posing as a thief for the Mob, becomes attracted to the scintillating French woman who is hellbent on killing kingpin Robert Loggia (seems she's a bloodsucker by night--and forgot to "finish the food" the evening she put the bite on Loggia's Sal the Shark!). Not terribly bright, but full of puckish black humor and one exciting, masterfully staged sequence after another. And when things calm down a bit, as with the motel sequence between hot twosome Anne Parillaud and Anthony LaPaglia, Landis is adept at smoothly changing the movie's rhythm. It's an impressive, gory, foul-mouthed, yet adrenalized and satirical piece of work, Landis' best. *** from ****
