neal2zod Maybe I just watch too many DTV sequels and my expectations are low, but I don't think this movie's that bad at all - it's short and fast-paced and coherent, which puts it above a lot of terrible horror sequels. The acting isn't too bad and they actually try for some character development. It delivers on the over-the-top gore from the first one and throws in some gratuitous nudity for good measure. It's not a perfect movie - the action is underwritten and the finale is anticlimactic, but there's interesting ideas here and the movie is surprisingly ahead of its time.I really don't get why people complain this one is "too different" from the first one, when it's a textbook "legacy sequel", i.e. a soft reboot/remake which has the same exact plot as the first one with a character from the original (Feldman) showing up in a supporting role. (This was obviously years ahead of Creed or Tron Legacy). Also here, the main character gets a gender swap (from angsty teenage boy to angsty teenage girl), and another huge character from the original shows up for one shot at the very end to end us on a cliffhanger. So yes, this is totally "The Force Awakens" of The Lost Boys franchise. In fact, I'd argue if this movie never came out, and they were to theatrically remake The Lost Boys today with a big budget, it would probably end up very, very similar to this. Not a must-see by any means, and nowhere as stylish or as fun as the original, but you can do much, much worse.
steel_indigo The first Lost Boys wasn't really that much better than the sequel but popular because it was the first of its kind and had a good sound track and group of actors. It was campy horror like the first Fright Night. There is nothing strange about finding surfer vampires considering the first group were living in a cave off the ocean in a beach city in California. So by extension it made sense. These types of movies are never award winners but entertaining. Since it was made so long after the first one, times have changed and what viewers expect to see in movies is a little more graphic and I think that is why there were more sex scenes.Wiki says: "Hans Rodionoff originally wrote a script about surfing werewolves titled The Tribe which was turned down by studios including Warner Bros for its resemblance to The Lost Boys. Warner Bros studio executives changed their mind when they decided on a sequel, who then persuaded Rodionoff to alter the script as a sequel, including changing the werewolves of the original to vampires. The film was Warner Premiere's highest selling DVD release of 2008, performing so impressively that Warner immediately green-lit a third installment. It covered its 5 million dollar production cost in its first three weeks of release. As of January 2011, it has sold over 1,250,000 copies, a record for a direct to DVD release. Despite the success on the DVD, the film received poor reviews" So even though some of the reviews haven't been so good and some for the original weren't either, they did quite well. Adapting it from another type of story is where I think they went wrong. As for Corey Haim he had trouble with his past offenses in being able to be in the movie and why he was left to only do a cameo. It wasn't any fault of those associated to the movie because they had wanted him. He just wasn't able to comply. The movie is entertaining and if the Master Vampire died in the other movie it makes sense to me that it would leave the next down the line in that position. They never said they were born the way they are at any time. I have seen far worse vampire movies than this one and it was nice to see Corey Feldman recast in his role as Edgar Frog.
ILoveEllyJ First of all, in order for a movie to be good, it must be written well. If the script is garbage, the actors will be garbage and so will everything else. This movie was just awful. I watched it with my dad and it seemed like every two minutes there was a sex scene. I felt I was watching a cheesy porno or something. I am a huge fan of the first Lost Boys, and I always liked COrey Feldman but I think this movie is way past his time. He was wonderful in the eighties with the two Corey's, but when he was returned to this he wasn't the young, cute Corey Feldman he used to be. Bringing in Keifer Sutherlands half brother to play the vampire was a great idea...if his half brother could act. I think the movie should have sequels, but when they're this bad it's best left as is. My advice, don't watch this movie. Watch the original Lost Boys and leave it at that.
Michelle This film is OK-HOWEVER it came 20 years too late!!! The first film was epic and will remain everyones favourite. They should have done this sequel about a year or so after the first and should have had all the original cast in especially SAM, Michael, grandpa, mom and Star!!! We want to know what happened to all of them!!! I really think Joel Schumacher should have directed this as well as he understood the LB properly-REALLY not a good movie. Suppose its OK if you have never seen the first one but if you have then this JUST doesn't make the grade! They really needed Corey Haim in it properly working alongside the Frog brothers. REALLY miss the original cast :((( Very sad to watch this really
