C Randall let's start by saying this....let's hope the writer, director and producer quit the industry and went back to making subs at Subway. 'cause this movie was extremely hard to watch to the end from the poor lines to the cheesy effects to the complete destruction of the world that this movie is supposed to be based on, I'm surprised they found financial backers. but, I suppose to saying goes..there's a sucker born every minute. when news of this movie came out, I was very excited. the world and universe that was created for the books, role playing and miniature games are very rich and exciting. a lot of the technology made sense, there wasn't all the "lasers, blasters and ray guns" of other sci-fi franchises. it's a dirty, gritty reality where a lot of the times the hero doesn't survive nor make a big difference in the ultimate outcome. so, with knowing what the source material was about, I was quite excited. then this abortion came along. poor CGI effects, EXTREMELY poor weapons and effects, poor spoken lines...the dialogue made me want to weep. then there's the MASSIVE changes that came with it. changes to the weapons, technology, the heroes and villains. everything was changed so dramatically, I'm amazed they could still retain the rights to call this the Mutant chronicles. overall, this movie was given the 1 it earned. what is REALLY sad is it had an excellent cast. Tomas Jane made a great Mitch Hunter, even though the character was almost unrecognizable. the other actors and actresses did a great job trying to save this sinking ship, but eve with their frantic bailing, it still sank and became the utter shipwreck it is.
clgarglez-335-987983 Got this title by chance in the local BB trying to add to my rent amount to get a free one and was pleasantly surprised; while it does have some flaws. They are not really annoying as in most recent ones. It is a good epic with likable characters, a bit on the stereotype range though -that German did have a penchant for explosives- but still they managed to integrate a believable rat pack for the mission with their cultural differences hinted who do not have everything laid for them. Favorite phrase "you "think"is that sort of device?" "Well the prophesy book is not really an instruction manual" whose names I actually managed to remember by the end of the movie. While is not a masterpiece it does deserve a sequel which anyone who liked Riddick and that sort of action movies will enjoy.
MrGKB ...and although visually interesting, "Mutant Chronicles" is at best mundane on every other level. Featuring heavily computer-generated backgrounds and sets ala "Sin City" and the like, and shot in a palette of washed-out greys and browns with occasional splashes of red (mostly blood), the film betrays its origins (RPG boardgaming/military miniatures) with an exceedingly stock quest plot populated with cardboard stereotypes and generic, uninspired dialogue. There's plenty of action and eye candy for the easily amused, which I suppose I fortunately was at the time, although it doesn't keep me from labelling the poor thing below average. An otherwise seasoned cast of professionals brings nothing terribly notable to the table beyond the usual exertions of the action genre, including a paycheck-taking cameo from John "Two days? I could have done this while I napped!" Malkovich. The script from Phillip "Event Horizon" Eisner simply doesn't allow them any chance to stretch, laden (and leaden) with cliché as it is.Still, I have to repeat that the production and design elements were very well done, if occasionally a little too comic-booky. It's just a shame the characters and story were so dull. Freebie viewing only, if you're at all selective, but if not, you'll get your money's worth of hack'n'stab and bang-bang.
nmanole This is one of my favorite movies. It has Thomas Jane, Ron Perlman and a host of other great actors in a way left field steampunk reality.Malkovich is dour and brilliant in his hopeless last acts to save a few.Jane puts 'the punisher to rest' as a mad son of a bitch with a moralsHe fits the part. There is some crock here as there is in most movies. But this flic is up there with abyss/outlander and even matrix as a wired adventure where the good guys save our assesHope you enjoyNick
