It's not a bad movie, but it's not a great movie either. It is also a waste of Christian Slater's talents although his short performance added to the enjoyment of the movie. However, that being said, this movie revealed a major plot hole early in the film. The legend is that Louis Le Prince (the devil) wanted to steal his son, Adolph's soul by filming Round Hay Garden. He wanted to replace Adolph's soul with his own, and the possession would continue from father to son down through the generations. Then, it was stated that all who appeared in the film died shortly thereafter. Well, that would include Adolph. If Adolph died, Le Prince could not possess him and Adolph could not have a son and possess him, and so on down through the bloodline.Major flaw and made it hard for me to enjoy the movie.

Promising beginning with intense acting, mixed in with that found footage vibe, looks good. Oh, Damn...and queue the cliché, teenage friends which will inevitably meet their demise. No, but all in all not a bad film. A bit tired of the dodgy camera that always seems to have some issues recording though. I get that it's supposed to be a hand-held, character used, video recorder without the glitch here an there to let me know it. Also, if it needs to be done, then just leave the actual film camera (the one that isn't supposed to be in the film) alone. That all said, they had me at the shower scene. Then some more partying happens, teenage shenanigans ensue, and 'oh hey, it looks like Christian Slater
oh wait, it is!' he sleazes it up, bring in some blood, insert antagonist's history s*** goes down and bobs your uncle. And just one spoiler for the end: Don't read if not wanting some things spoiled! You've been warned! So, why oh why, does teenage possessing baddie need to set up a room with a T.V., while the "just searching for answers" good guy sits tied up in another room, when he could have just videoed him with his handy cam, which he does later anyway? Oh, because the battery might die! Silly me! Then use you're cell phone
there ya go. Next time just use the phone.

First - with regards to the previous reviews. Lets try and get one thing straight. The Christian is Christian Slater - not Bale. Mel Gibson was in PAYBACK not this film. Robert Downey Junior was not in this film. Some of the reviews seem to have their films mixed up. JJ Abrams had nothing to do with this film. If you are going to leave a review at least get the film right, the actors right and the story line right! There is no gay janitor! Now - for this film. Well, it's slow, only one true jump moment, very little killing, poor storyline, weird random storyline involving Christian Slater and generally bad acting. I've seen scarier adverts than this film. There are so many scenes which added nothing to the storyline and were pointless. The camera action was lazy and thoughtless. Character development was non existent, no relationship or connection was created. You just don't care about the characters. Overall don't waste your time - there really is nothing going for this!

After being disappointed by the lead actor's previous role this year in The Dark Knight Rises, I watched this film with trepidation; however, I must say this was no letdown. No film in years has given me the fun
the excitement
nay, the unparalleled thrill that this film delivered. With a running time nearing 112 minutes, Christian Bale has carried this film to new heights, unseen by the lesser films of 2012. The boredom generated by the lacklustre films, such as the canned laughter of Les Miserables and the over-the-top drama from The Hobbit, can shine no light to the masterpiece given to us by the relatively new Michael A. Nickles. I will be keeping my eye on this young director, eager to devour his next stroke of genius. I recommend this film to all the movie goers, young and old as they will find this to be the best film of this year, possibly the decade.
