prismbreak-beta "I had to tell all our friends that my only daughter - the BRIGHTEST in her class - was pregnant, and leaving school."Richard told Lorelei the depth of his heartbreak with those words in Season 1. The pain that he endured, knowing that the future that he had envisioned for his daughter would never come."I had to tell all my friends, that my only daughter - the BRIGHTEST in her class - has turned into a bitter, washed-up hoe."With these words, the heartbreak of Rory's destiny lost becomes real.Rory was always more mature than Lorelei. She made lists, she overprepared, she worried about other people before herself. She had morals, and self-respect.That's why she was such a beloved character. In this revival, Rory has become as immature as her mother. Her career is going nowhere. She is a gypsy, living out of suitcases from one country to the next. Her decision to turn down marriage because it would "limit her choices" is painfully ironic. She has casual sex with a total stranger. She cheats on her boyfriend with an engaged man. She fails to prepare for an interview for a job she considers beneath her, and then blames everyone but herself for the consequences of her actions. It's as if Rory - once upon a time compassionate, intelligent, and ambitious - was transformed into the worst caricature of feminism.Perhaps Hollywood thinks that entitlement and infidelity are trendy. And to make Rory pregnant at the end is like putting gasoline on a rotten fire. Is this supposed to be a commentary on how single mothers create more single mothers?Jess was always Rory's best match. He wasn't afraid to disagree with her, to challenge her, to make her explore the boundaries of her black-and-white thinking. He was her intellectual equal, and though he could never be the knight-in-shining-armor that Dean was, he still cared in his own aloof, bad boy way. His brief but welcome appearance in this revival only cements the fact that Logan is Rory's kryptonite. Why did the actors agree to return for this dreck? For the money, I suppose.
Aasta Kyvik I only discovered Gilmore Girls recently, so it was all very fresh in my memory when I started on this mini-series. I liked it, but it didn't feel as authentic as the original series. Some of the monologues fell pretty flat as if they were talking to no one, which bothered me because I fell out and suddenly was very aware that it was acting. Luke's monologue in the end of episode is the only one that really pulled a punch, it was pure gold.I have red several reviews on this title and it seems like people's main concern is how Rory turned out. I think it was rather realistic actually. She's used to get what she wants and works hard for it, but the real world wasn't as she hoped and harder than she thought. It's therefore pretty realistic that she seems less mature because she feels let down and doesn't know how to get back on the saddle again. I also understand her affair with Logan because he takes her back to a time where her life was more like she wanted to. He reminds her of how she had opportunities and of her young success. The Paul thing on the other hand was so out of place and put in just for a laugh when it in reality was nothing but sad, and the Wookiee thing felt nothing but pointless.Lorelai felt out of place though. I understand she was grieving but even her more cheerful self didn't seem like the old Lorelai. It was also very disappointing how she didn't seem to mind that her daughter was cheating, the old Lorelai have shown what she felt. All in all I didn't seem to find the same mother and daughter feel, it felt almost staged some times.Emily was fantastic. Her character was the one that was most true to her self while also showing sign of growing. She has always been one of my favorite characters and she did not disappoint! It was very sad with with the death of Richard (also a favorite of mine), both the death of the actor and the character, but how Emily turned out made it turn from pointless to meaningful. The summer episode was my least favorite. The pool scene with body shaming was so tacky and disappointing, and the musical felt unnecessary. The musical scene could've been so much better with an appearance of Kirk as a stagehand or something similar. An appearance of Kirk in general in this episode would've made a huge different, but he was nowhere to be seen and missed.I liked the open ending though, the pregnancy will force Rory to pull herself back together, and hopefully will her and Jesse's paths cross again. All in all, I would've watched it again.
tyrellpeterson Please. Get of you to add another year. 4 more episodes. Something. Please, please please. I understand the clif hanger. And I understand how it ends. Rory is pregnant. Okay. And the only logical option is Logan. But Logan is engaged. So thinking the whole thing through, one can safely conclude that Rory very well will end up in the same situation Lorelai was in. A single mom. Dad in and out of picture. Look at how lorelai turned out, magnificent. So how will Rory be. We can imagine, the same, magnificent and wonderful. So I mean really one could be okay with the ending. But after becoming so dearly attached to all these characters, can one really be happy with that kind of ending to our show? No! We need more. Just a little more. Something. Please!!!!!!!!!
jsica51088 First of all the makeup felt wayyyyy over done. Lorelai is supposed to be almost 50 and that's fine, but they make her look like she's supposed to be much younger like 35 or 40, too much! Rory also looked way overdone. These women are both very beautiful and they tried so hard to make them look picture perfect that they overdid it and made them look practically unnatural. This added to the "fakeness" of the show overall. The original series felt so much more natural with the makeup.OK now onto the actual story. Some things are better left to the imagination. Rory had such a promising future at the end of the original series. She was a fresh graduate from a good school with a good job lined up. What she has now may be realistic, but she never did originally have realistic prospects. Her new life feels like such a let down career wise. Also with her relationships, what the heck!!?? I don't know if she's gotten bored in life or something, but she has become so immature and has lost all of her good morals. She already did the affair thing with Dean and it seemed like she had learned from that. Now with Logan, it's like she's gone backwards. This relationship, while I was glad to see Logan again, was very out of character from the Rory who seemed to learn from her mistakes. And the Paul story line, just there for the sake of being funny, I guess(even though it wasn't). They could have easily left out the Paul story and the show would've been better. Onto Lorelai, her struggles of being stuck with the inn was quite nice and realistic. However, they gave her too many stupid moments that were supposed to be funny, like crawling around when she was supposed to give the story about her dad. She could've easily excused herself to use the restroom and delayed coming back. It was like she had no sense there. I know she was supposed to be drunk, but seriously!? Lorelai is silly, but to me she's never been stupid until now. Her spat with Rory felt very out of character, like it was created just for the sake of having a conflict. Then, the fact that Sookie left was completely not realistic. It made sense for the filming since Melissa McCarthy has become such a big star, but for the story's sake, it made no sense. It was great when she came back for at least a little bit. It almost made up for her being completely gone. And Luke, it was nice having him back and completely in character, but their whole spat that last about 5 minutes, just no.. The fact that him and Lorelai weren't married felt like it was only there to create a story line. And the fact that after almost a decade of being together, they're just now talking about having kids. It was like another conflict just there for creating a story line. The town of Stars Hollow was nice: good familiar faces, silly Kirk stories, classic Taylor, the secret bar. All good. The musical, however, felt like the biggest waste of time especially when I realized how much time they had devoted to it= too much! Jess's appearance was great! For me, he redeemed the whole series. He had matured realistically and the fact that he was still pining for Rory was great!! He was in character which was refreshing after having Rory go so downhill. Emily's story was nice and great seeing her evolve after losing her husband. Overall, I felt like they were very lazy with the story lines. Lorelai's conflicts felt mostly forced and unrealistic. Rory was very out of character and a disappointment after I'd liked her so much in the original series. Some of the story lines like Paul, the musical and Lorelai's and Luke's fight that led to her Wild moment were so pointless that the show would've been better off without them. The last episode was the best and the cliffhanger was great, but...it opened even more questions and it seems like the show could be officially over, so the cliffhanger seemed silly.I had imagined much better for the show, so some things are better left to the imagination...
