Beth Biscuits I first saw this film when i was a 7 year old, i've always been a huge fan of the tale of snow white and i got this on VHS as a birthday present. It didn't disappoint! It was wonderful, from when the wonderfully slightly haunting music plays at the beginning right the way through to the end! Even watching it as an adult i love it, the simplicity of going back to the days before everything was cgi or 3d! When they actually built all the props! Its such a wonderful, wonderful adaptation! Sure the songs are a bit cheesy (this was the eighties though don;t forget) but it all adds to it! Sarah Patterson plays the part of snow white well, alluring yet innocent, really pretty without being overly provocative. The dwarfs are fab especially billy Barty who appears in pretty much every cannon movie tale film! I cannot rave about this enough! If you wanna go back to good old fairy tales without the cgi rubbish and the over acting then i highly recommend you check this out! I'm a big lover of all the cannon movie tales! If you watch and like snow white then be sure to check out Hansel and Gretel!
Wicked89 I've seen the film on "YouTube" and personally I loved it a little more than the beloved Disney film. Diana Rigg (Emma Peel in "The Avengers") steals the show as the film's Wicked Queen. Even though her costumes and hair are dramatically over the top and hideous it suits the character but the gold potato sack and the spider leg hat that she wears while preparing the poisoned apple had me thinking "How can someone who is so vain wear something so hideous even if they could?" But the song that she sings when plots to have the huntsman kill Snow White had me LOL! Sarah Patterson (Rosaleen in "The Company of Wolves") really held her own as the Fairest One of All herself. She is well cast as the innocent young princess who did no wrong to her stepmother. Equally well cast is Nicola Stapleton who plays Snow White as a little girl. The dwarfs (led by the late Billy Barty) were hilarious! Their scenes with Snow White were well played.
zardoz-13 Don't expect Disney out of this 1987 live-action version of the Grimm Brothers' vintage fairy tale. Diana Rigg of the television show "The Avengers" delivers the only worthwhile performance and nobody else stands out in this lackluster but more accurate rendition of the classic yarn. The action starts with the Prince discovering the glass coffin with Snow White in it. Afterward, we learn that the mother of our heroine died after she gave birth and the dad married the Evil Queen. The Evil Queen wants to destroy Snow White because her mirror reminds her that she is the fairest of the fair and the Queen refuses to be upstaged. She orders a huntsman to take the young beauty into the woods and kill her. The Evil Queen demands that the Huntsman brings back the heart of the heroine so she can keep it in a box. Alas, the poor fellow does not have the nerve to do such a dastardly deed. Anyway, Snow White flees and winds up at the house of the seven dwarfs and becomes their housekeeper. She cooks their meals and keeps their home clean. Years pass and the Evil Queen learns from her mirror that the damsel has survived so she sets out to kill her by herself. Initially, she laces a bodice on Snow White and our heroine passes out and the Queen leaves. The dwarfs cut the bodice off and Snow White recovers. The Queen masquerades the second time as an Asian woman and gives Snow White a deadly comb. Again, the dwarfs saw the day. By now the dwarfs have warned the witless Snow White to not open the door and let anybody into their house. Finally, the Queen tries again and gives Snow White a poison apple. No, Snow White does not open the door but the Queen manages to get the apple to her and our heroine winds up unconscious on the floor again. Sarah Patterson of "The Company of Wolves" is pretty but she doesn't do much other than look pretty. Billy Barty, who parlayed his short stature into a film career, plays one of the dwarfs. Eventually, the Queen learns that Snow White survived the apple and is about to be married to a prince in an adjacent kingdom. The Queen shatters her own mirror and sets off to attend the wedding, not knowing that as each shard of the mirror falls to the ground that she grows even older and more ugly. Again, Diana Rigg is the only reason to watch writer& director Michael Berz's version of this story
cmoore0013 Diana Rigg IS the evil queen. The songs"Were am I going","Beautiful Hair",and "Every Day" should have been in every version of Snow White ever. The queen's disquises are wonderful. The first one was terrible.Anyone could tell it was her.The others were strange. She even dresses up as a chinese woman once.Of course the old woman is one.She uses that one with the apples.Sarah Patterson is as beautiful as Snow White ever could be.I strongly recommend buying a copy.IF your store has it rent it.Go NOW GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
