rhysseddon-88973 this film is defo a 7.5 however i gave it an 8 for effort after watching the making of, what they did on a very low budget was indeed impressive, lots of action, character development, and good practical effects, best bit was defo when the ending
BadlandZ I don't like to dis a movie that so many people obviously worked so hard on. The script, story, cinematography, aren't amateur hour, this movie was something that was worked on in excess, obviously. But, somehow, the story had this happen and that happened, to the point that the writers over wrote the subplots (which weren't very good) to the point that the main plot was so secondary and anti-climactic that it was boring.Acting wasn't bad, but they had nothing to work with, where were the characters going, what was their struggle, what was their victory? EMPTY.It made me feel like it was never going to end, and never going anywhere. I just watched the time pass going REALLY? It's still only part way through? The best I can say, is if you are a Walking Dead fan, and desperate for a halfway tolerable fix of killing undead like things and surviving, it might be something to pass the time. And, OMG, does it waste a couple hours.
my_lost_nebula I want to say upfront that I'm not a great fan of the latest post-apocalyptic movies, 'cause they all are so much the same and therefore, just boring. And movies about zombies and vampires are definitely off my list, for the same reason (although I'm a big fan of Bram Stoker's Dracula and The Walking Dead). This movie was recommended to me by a friend of mine, and almost reluctantly, I started watching it about two hours ago. And it is just great. I mean, really. I don't know why it got only 6,6 points on IMDb, because it's definitely worth watching. Of course, if you are looking for some hot looking main characters slaughtering hundreds of vampires - forget it, wrong address. But if you are into a post-apocalyptic movie with supernatural monsters which gives you a sense of reality, twisted, but still reality - go for it. And I found the acting brilliant.
airsnob Had to write a review of this little gem. I have not the slightest clue why vampires have been seductive, or erotic at all. I think Gary Oldmans Dracula was amazing. And yes, I fell in love with him too. But I remember being a kid, and vampires scared the crap out of me, and all of my nightmares about them, were exactly like this movie. The world goes into a sort of nuclear winter , without the radio active isotopes floating around, a desert of humanity , living in a barren world of evil marshal law. The vampires have eaten your family, and everyone else's, and the Zealots are calling it the apocalypse, exacerbating their insanity. You're only hope is to become a serial killer of vampires, and apathetic to the human constitution. I was afraid this would happen. I mean, when I was 8. Well, someone took all the aspects of my childhood night terrors to film, and Stake Land is the result. A fine little ditty. I was so stoked when I was watching this. That feeling you get when a movie is really entertaining, and you have been waiting a really long time for one. The fact that it's an Indy film just makes it even better . I read these reviews and so many people on this site really try to be pretentious movie critics. I despise critics of art . It's so easy to sit back and just watch it- what someone else wrote, someone else loved enough to birth , and critique it. I have a feeling that the people who write reviews on here and spit on a good movie ( entertaining is good , by the way) are pseudo intellectuals getting their rocks off , trying to impress us with their art interpretations and patronizing zeal. Some movies aren't art. Some movies want you to have a good time , they don't want to change your life. This movie won't get an Oscar. This movie didn't reach into my chest and squeeze my heart . What it did was keep me entertained . I liked that.
