Eric Stevenson I had no idea that this movie would be an origin story for Supergirl. I personally didn't find it as good as the Wonder Woman or Red Hood movies, but it's still good. I was thinking that all of these films were setting up some new superhero universe like the DCAU. I easily recognized that it wasn't the same Wonder Woman from the other movie. I think Superman's appearance has become a meme of some sort with how goofy it looks. Well, I admit it does look goofy but that's a minor complaint about a good movie. The animation for the most part is really good.I don't know why Desaad wasn't in this movie. It's kind of hard to take seriously a villain named Granny Goodness. Still, the action scenes are tons of fun and we even get a nice twist ending. This certainly told Supergirl's origin better than that awful Supergirl movie. I thought she might have been Power Girl at first, but I guess I'm just more interested in seeing a superhero, who's um, really attractive. It's great to see Batman and Wonder Woman here too and yep, this did a better way of representing them than the disappointing Batman Vs. Superman movie. ***
Thomas Drufke In preparation for the upcoming Batman V Superman film, I've decided to revisit a few of each of the heroes' feature films, especially those where they come in direct conflict with one another. It's considered a direct sequel to 2009's Worlds Finest film, but in reality, it's its own entity. It's also not really a Superman & Batman film at all. With the story line directly focusing on the appearance of Supergirl and the inclusion of Wonder Woman and the Amazonians, it's almost like a mini Justice League film. If you're going in looking for a classic Batman & Superman story, this isn't it. But if you're looking for yet another solid entry in the DC Animated Universe, then I think there's enjoyment to be had here.Supergirl (Kara) enters the world in full Terminator glory and is discovered by none other than Batman. As him and Superman debate as to what they should do with her, Darkseid and his minions try to take things in their own hands. Wonder Woman believes Supergirl should be kept away from civilization until her powers are under control but Superman believes she should live with him as he teaches her the way of the world. Of course, Kara has her own idea of the life she should live. And that's really the basis the film goes by. Other than Batman and Superman both being in the film, it's not their story at all.The film does pick up however once they go to Darkseid's planet of Apocalypse itself after he kidnapped Kara. Darkseid's presence in this film is pretty much the exact representation I would hope the live action universe uses. He's calculating, manipulating, cool, calm, and collected. Throw in some omega beams and an unstoppable physical presence and you get DC's potentially best villain.Even though this film is entertaining and definitely satisfying by its end, there has to be some let down in the fact that it doesn't ever feel like a Batman and Superman film. It's one of my biggest fears of Batman V Superman. Keep the film even in tone and focus, and don't mislead your audience. If you do that, I don't think people will be disappointed. So with all that said, Superman/Batman Apocalypse is a decent entry in a distinguished line of incredible animated films, it's just unfortunate it doesn't live up to its predecessor.+Darkseid's presence+Well realized characters through voice work+Supergirl is handled correctly-But it's not a Superman/Batman film at all-A let down in some regards7.7/10
nandadulhani When I said lame comic book adaptation, I meant it considering that this movie was made for both: Batman and Superman. But after looking at the movie, its approach seemed to be only Superman friendly, not mere because this movie showed a lot about superman and super-girl but the movie Batman had no signs of what the real batman is all about.ex: During the end of the movie, darkseid said to batman:"You can destroy your own kind to win a Battle", which I consider as the lamest sentence I have ever heard in the entire history of television that I have watched.Batman is all about saving the people and he would happily lose a million battles just to save one life, and that could be of any one, even the worst of the enemies of the Batman. This movie totally brought forth a new Batman of its own, which doesn't own any resemblance to the original great character. Watch "Batman the animated series" and see by your self the difference in the character. To be honest, this story isn't really awful story wise, but is awful character adaptation wise. Don't waste your time here, if u wanna watch something real, watch "Batman-Superman public enemies" which indeed is a great movie..
Jangobadass I loved the first Superman/Batman movie, "Public Enemies". And I love this one even more. It has everything that made the first one great while fixing some PE's flaws. For starters, "Apocolypse" looks better than its predecessor. While PE based its animation on Ed McGuinness' ridiculous art style, this one tries (though doesn't always succeed) in imitating the gorgeous artwork of the late Micheal Turner, which greatly helps it.It also gives its characters more depth. In PE, a number of DC Comics characters just showed up almost randomly, many not even identified by name, let alone telling us about them. I watched it with some non-fan friends in the room and they were confused by the lesser known heroes and villains who seemed to show up out of no where and they didn't learn anything about. Here, we get to learn about many of the characters, at least to some degree. Fittingly, Kara gets a lot of focus let us get to know her well quickly and her relationship with Superman is quite stirring. It even benefits from more time. While PE was the shortest DC Animated film, this one is the longest (even if it's just by a few minutes), it makes good use of every second. However, it's not perfect. While most of the voice cast does a wonderful job, Andre Braugher is surprisingly underwhelming as Darksied. The spot on dialog would've sounded better and been more intimidating if they'd used Micheal Ironside or even Frank Welker, but Braugher's performance just isn't very menacing. It also drops a few too many things from the original comic storyline. One such unfortunate side effect of the dropped material is Lyla/Harbinger, whose death is treated with much sadness and importance by the characters, but viewers have little reason to sympathize. To be fair, the character had been so underused/misused in the comics that by the time the storyline happened I doubt many fans cared. But I can imagine her getting enough depth in the comics to give us more reason why we should be as moved by her death as the characters are. Other things I miss are Mr. Miracle, the Justice League's appearance at the end, and explanation why the Doomsday clones are such wusses. Though there are elements I'm glad they dropped like Batman fighting Darkseid and the Source Wall.As far as I'm concerned, this is one of DC's best animated films. It has everything that made "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies" cool, while surpassing it in a number of areas. A great movie for any DC Comics fan.
