imdb-962-5457 WARNING: SPOILER ALERT!!!Do not be mislead by the pointless, misleading synopsis. Like the excellent "Final Approach" the synopsis bears only the loosest relationship the the film and could be construed as misrepresentation under the Trades Description Act. This is a GOOD THING (tm).A truer synopsis might read something like this:"A touching and tragic drama about the development of psychosis. Two high-school best friends: Mattie is a confident musician but her wealthy home-life is remote. Jess is shy and likes science, with an equally remote but harder home life. After a car accident, in which her best friend Mattie was driving, Jess suffers very serious head trauma: a bizarre case of locked-in syndrome; unable to communicate with the outside world Jess's fantasy becomes her reality and in a surrealistic twist her reality becomes increasingly and confusingly entwined with the real lives of others. These are: Mattie and Mattie's boyfriend Riley, Aiyana (the school psychologist) & Mark (a science teacher) at the start of their own relationship, and the ambulance men who provide first-aid.The personal demons of Aiyana & Mark provide them with the ability to sympathise with the increasing bizarre life of Mattie as her reality merges with that of locked-in Jess.Ultimately, Mattie seeks forgiveness for the tragic accident, which though given, in a Faustian twist, takes upon herself the personality of Jess; thus releasing Jess who becomes Mattie's other personality in developing full-blown schizophrenia.(There is some mumbo-jumbo pseudo-science about quantum entanglement to explain why this group are brought together, which is rather unconvincingly given and best ignored, hence this film gets an 8 not a 9.)
Gary Williams First of all, forget the official synopsis. This is not a sci-fi flick about the collapse of spacetime or anything like that. It's misleading and it's a shame, I think that is what has put some people off. What it is though is a rather clever mind screw as the result of a car crash. Stick with it and it all starts to make sense, it was interesting to try to guess what was going on and I almost got it right. There are some very clever and emotionally charged plot changes. The acting is not that bad, especially when the get to the crunch of what is really going onThink of it as similar to the butterfly effect, for a low budget movie this really was a clever storyline if a little too long before it got to the real emotional crunch point of the car crash itself.
hqfedlegion-1 I love weird movies, space, time travel, etc. I love all that. This was something that I can't even put into words. The description of the movie is being overly generous. Its like saying Star Wars is about a family squabble. Honestly the best thing about the movie is the music, and thats a stretch also. Maybe it was being filmed in Colorado or that I have seen better home made movies, but this movie was not good. I mean Dean and McDowell were side characters at best. It must have been that legalized pot that made this movie the way it was. And maybe if you were high it would make more sense. But being stone cold sober and not on drugs; well lets just say that I lost the time in watching this movie that no amount of time or space will I ever get back. Skip this all the way to the dump bin.
shinsrevenge Get ready for a long journey into the human mind. Thoughts, memories, emotions. It's all a flowing river, always in motion without a way to figure where it starts or ends. That's the world of "The black hole". A teenager finds her daily live messed up more and more as many things, places and people just keep changing before her eyes. Rather early in the movie she meets the two men who tell her that she (and everyone else) is just a thought in the mind of someone. She keeps ignoring and avoiding the truth as long as possible while the other characters try to help her accepting the truth. On this long journey you'll find yourself confused many times over, but you'll keep wondering what this is all about and where it leads. Even though the movie offers some length, stretching out to almost 2 hours, I found the time worthwhile. You only see Malcom McDowell in a couple of scenes. I remember him as the scientist from "Star Trek - Generations", who desperately wanted to get into the Nexus. The strange dimension where thoughts became reality and this reality could be altered any time, without "time" itself having any meaning. Both movies offer a similar concept and even though this idea has been there before, it hasn't lost its appeal.
