SnoopyStyle After a tough mission, Marine sniper Joe Linwood (Ted DiBiase) goes with his wife Robin to her wealthy demanding client Darren Conner's opening of his tropical paradise resort. They find local guide Church who is a former Ranger. Later that night, they are attacked by a gang of separatist terrorists. The terrorists take Robin, Darren and many others hostage threatening to kill them all in 24 hours. The military is slow to act and mercenaries are called in. Joe goes along on the rescue mission but things don't go right. It's an 80's action B-movie with better production value. The acting is not one of the things that are better. I really like the opening action sequence. However it goes downhill from there. DiBiase and Lara Cox are pretty stiff actors. There is limited chemistry and the movie drags. Even the reliable Michael Rooker cannot save this. The action is well done but I couldn't care less about these characters. It makes the movie nothing more than an exercise in stunts and pyrotechnics.
Aki Savolainen Pro wrestlers foraying into the world of movies seems to be some kind of a thing nowadays, and I can completely understand it: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson did it well, The music business has the cross-platform promotion working for them, and, like Seagal and Van Damme have proved years before, acting skills are not a mandatory requirement to act in an action movie.Maybe in order to avoid the embarrassment that former wrestler Hulk Hogan must (or at the very least should) feel from being associated with such notorious crimes against the art of movie-making as No Holds Barred, Mr. Nanny, Santa with Muscles, and The Ultimate Weapon, the WWE is holding the reins all the way here.As the title reveals, this film is a sequel to The Marine starring oh- so-wooden John Cena, though in spirit only. Unlike the aforementioned film, and also earlier Santa's Slay, The Marine 2 doesn't luckily ride so much on the name of it's main actor, as Ted Dibiase jr. was, at least at the time of the filming, quite some way away from wrestling main events. With this being said, the films plays it very safe. The flaws of the script and the actors and the uninspired director are hidden from view, which is a sound idea, but it inevitably results in an unsurprising film wading through various tropes and clichés. But I dare to say that cinematographic delights were never in the plans, as this film is destined to be a vehicle to boost the momentum of Ted DiBiase jr., the wrestler, not the actor. And to everyone's pleasant surprise, The Marine 2 might just achieve it with enough entertainment for all viewers to have positive memories of the film. This is great, considering how much worse it could've been with all the ingredients involved. It has decent action, I can't recall anything cringe-worthy, and it doesn't offend. Though I usually for those yearning for wrestler-films I recommend Road House, They Live, and Predator, a single viewing of The Marine 2 does get my blessing. Not much anything, but not a waste of time, either. AND it is better than "the original" The Marine.
Cammy Rhodes First of all i'd just like to say this is my first ever review, i bought this movie on DVD a while back and i just loved it, i knew it was a direct to DVD sort of movie and i didn't expect much...but i didn't expect this to become one of my favourite films. The film obviously isn't one of the best action films ever or...one of the best films ever, most will consider it one of the worst but thats their opinion and i respect that. The Marine 2 stars Ted DiBiase Jr who at first i never really payed attention to in the WWE, at the time this was being made he was just 'that other guy in Legacy with Randy Orton' but after i seen this, i seen him in a different light, he was really like-able in this film, the fight scenes he was in were really well done and i could feel and believe every hit and it just had me hooked, the scene in the boiler room especially was just awesome!, I seen 'The Marine' starring John Cena and as a kid who was a huge John Cena fan i loved it, but now that I'm older and have watched all three Marine films, I'm sure many would agree this one is the best of the series, DiBiase has more of the 'Average' look, he isn't really buff like Cena and quite frankly it makes the character seem more like a Marine, DiBiase isn't considered a good actor but for his first acting role he did really well In my opinion, Temuera Morrison was really good as the villain 'Damo' and the supporting cast in the film were...alright, Michael Rooker should have had more screen time though, i wish DiBiase and him had teamed up more in the film, for what this film is worth i'd definitely advise you to watch it when you have nothing to do, fancy watching a movie you haven't seen or just want to switch you're brain off to watch a film...(if that makes sense) the film doesn't take itself to seriously and really its just a popcorn flick, this movie is definitely better than most things these days, out of all the direct to DVD films I have seen, this is probably one of the best Direct to DVD movies ever, I'm Sure some people will be shaking their heads at this review but this is my opinion of the film, i love WWE, i love Ted DiBiase Jr as a wrestler and now...an actor, Roel Riene's directing was good, for a director known mostly for direct to DVD films I wasn't surprised when i seen he was the director, partly why this movie works so well, Im praying for a crossover with John Cena and Ted DiBiase crossing paths in a Marine film In the future though, if you're not a WWE fan you most likely wont like this film, if you are a movie buff you might like this film, if anything to criticise about this film it would be the effects...but they are no where NEAR as bad as a SyFy film, they effects look fake at times but only if you look at them constantly will you see this, some Of the acting makes you cringe but lets face it this film Wasn't made to win any awards for best acting or best...anything but its still believable at times, the dialogue is pretty decent, the scene when Ted's running off and Michael Rooker says "Give em hell Marine" is one of my favourite lines and scene of the film. So if you haven't seen this film, see it, you can only love it or hate it, if you hate WWE then stay away...because it wont make you fall In love with WWE...i think, anyway if you blame WWE studios and say this is their worst well...you clearly haven't seen Knucklehead :)
Tss5078 When people hear WWE films, or see that a wrestler is starring in a movie, they are automatically turned off, and I never understood why. We tend to see wrestlers as muscles heads, running around in their underwear, but the truth is that wrestling is fake. These guys are all actors who every week need to learn line and choreography, just like an actor does! When WWE films was launched in 2006, a lot of people snickered, but the truth is, we've gotten some pretty films from the company, including 12 Rounds, The Call, See No Evil, and The Marine. Much like other Action films, the plot of the Marine 2 is somewhat thin. The story features a highly decorated, U.S. Marine, on vacation with his wife, when the resort is overrun by terrorists. The Marine (Ted DiBiase Jr.), has to take it upon himself to save his wife and the other hostages, when it becomes painfully obvious that the local military isn't equipped to deal with the terrorists. DiBiase Jr., a third generation wrestler, is the star of this film, an unlike John Cena in the first film, DiBiase really seems to have some type of military training in his background. The action and fight sequences are much better in this film then they were in the first. DiBiase Jr. really seems to know what he's doing and it made the story that much more enjoyable. What DiBiase Jr. lacks in acting skills, is more than made up for with the terrific action sequences. He is also aided by some fairly big names for a film like this, including Michael Rooker of The Walking Dead and Star Wars, Temuera Morrison. The first Marine film was a debut for a studio and lacked the bite of most Action films. The second installment was much better, featuring a more experienced cast, and much better fight sequences. You may not want to see this film, because it's a WWE production, and I can respect that, but in all honesty, you'll be missing out on a more than decent Action movie.
