OreoDreamer Brittany Murphy will forever be stuck in time for me because this is the one and only chick flick movie I watch throughout my life.I love how the movie emphasizes that not every adult feels and acts like one and not all children feel their age also. The main characters grow mentally in this movie, to a place of acceptance and happiness in their minds and find their right shoe sizes while still keeping their individuality. The main characters are 3D and fleshed out unlike a lot of other chick flicks and therefor I'm really thankful for a movie that finds a great balance between fairytale and real life.
Python Hyena Uptown Girls (2003): Dir: Boaz Yakin / Cast: Brittany Murphy, Dakota Fanning, Heather Locklear, Marley Shelton, Donald Faison: Formula driven crass gesture class and age. This film ages fast without the class. Brittany Murphy is relieved of her apartment when her rock star boyfriend fails to return and she is advised to get a job. She ends up being the nanny to a spoiled eight year old girl whose mother is never there for her. Predictable formula that has been done countless times with different faces. Directed by Boaz Yakin who previously made the overrated and boring Remember the Titans. Murphy is the one performance that passes even though her breaking through to Dakota Fanning is all too obvious. Fanning is talented but basically going through the motions of a role that ends up right where viewers predict she will and she will be stubborn the whole way. Supporting roles are the usual flat props. Marley Shelton plays Murphy's friend who offers room for her. Too bad she didn't offer a better script. Donald Faison plays another one of her friends and he isn't any more intriguing than Shelton. Heather Locklear is the biggest waste as Fanning's workaholic mother. How many times have we seen this transitions? The message doesn't matter because this film exists sorely for the employment opportunity for those unfortunate in the Hollywood job bank. Score: 3 / 10
stodruza This is actually a nine or eight star film if you are open to it.The critics have lost their capacity to enjoy films, much like the Fanning character in the movie. But, for them, sadly, there is no redemption. Fanning is brilliant, every time she opens her mouth she touches your heart. Murphy is very good, and as one IMDb user has written, "adults probably wrote it off as a 'kids movie' and the kids didn't understand the emotional plot line"....interesting explanation as to why the film did only 37 million domestically.Who is the audience for this film? What age? Women, from fourteen to thirty, probably. The only fault I can think of is it moves too fast to get to the story, and a few more nuances would have made it a little more palpable. I liked this film.
insomniac_rod A fairly entertaining movie that could be labeled as a chick flick. This is the kind of movie where one of the two main characters (this time a little girl) has a really bad attitude caused by familiar problems and some other issues. But everything changes when she meets a hot but naive baby sitter that will take care of her always. Also, she teaches her lessons of life and helps her get through the different problems of being a young girl as the film points it out.As a man who is into Horror I can only say that this movie is recommended for an audience that enjoys this kind of romantic comedies that always have a positive message and a happy ending. The performances are alright. Brittany Murphy is sexy as always and always manages to deliver a fun performance. She's pretty fine. Dakota Fanning is very annoying but the girl is a very good actress.Just watch this movie and enjoy... To be honest I didn't expect it to be this "good". Recommended for women specially.
