leonblackwood Review: I was expecting this movie to be really bad but it's actually watchable with some good action scenes. The storyline is about Seagal looking to revenge the death of his son after he gets mysteriously shot down on the streets of L.A. The cops try to make it look like a straight forward gang shooting, but Seagal isn't buying there story. He moves near to were the shooting took place and he delves into the underworld to try and work out why his son, who was also a police officer, was killed in cold blood. The storyline is basic and the movie did look quite cheap but it isn't that bad. There isn't any amazing twists but it's great watching Seagal kick butt without any damage to himself. Basically, it's what it says on the tin so it worth a watch if your into your mindless action movies. OK!Round-Up: This was made when Seagal was coming out with some decent movies but his career was on a downhill spiral. His coolness throughout the movie is classic Seagal, which we have all before and he seemed to actually move in his action scenes, which he is having problems with doing nowadays. I'm yet to see Seagal come up against a decent opponent who would give him a good fight but I still like watching him take down his enemies. Although the film went straight to DVD, it is better than his later work which are quite terrible. I recommend this movie to people who are into their action movies about Seagal seeking revenge after his son gets shot down in L.A. 3/10
apertome I don't understand all these positive reviews. In my view this is one of Seagal's worst (though not his very worst). I didn't feel like Seagal was "back" at all. Many confusing, close edits, and poor lighting, obscure the fighting. Speaking of lighting, there wasn't much used, so the whole film is extremely dark and grainy, and not in a stylized way, just in a "we didn't care enough to use lighting" sort of way. Often characters appear backlit on the screen as well. The story is simplistic to the point of being laughable. Seagal still can't act. I feel 4 stars is generous, but I WAS entertained, so mission accomplished, from that point of view.
Mr X This is one of the better Seagal movie, and he plays the father of a dead cop who was shot in the hood... he's on to deliver urban justice... and he delivers! You get some brutal hand to hand combat, car chases, gun shooting and that East side gangster guy cracking jokes, plus a nice little scene with Danny Trejo. It's all very fun. The little side story with Gary and Isaah is just icing on this cake. Don't let the 5.1/10 score fool you. If you want top Seagal and B comedy with funny gangsta lore, this movie will surely please you. I can say this ranks easily amongst the top 5 Seagal ever did in my opinion. It is highly underrated.
ianlouisiana Welcome back to the world of Wile E. Coyote. This is great stuff,Steve,I haven't laughed so much at a movie since your masterpiece "Under Siege". Honestly,I loved "Urban Justice. Here's the Stevester at his fearsome best - really p*ssed off at a bunch of homeys he suspects might have had something to do with the murder of his hero - cop (natch) son. There's a top gangsta (Mr E.Griffin)who looks like Little Richard yet wears a headscarf Dot Cotton might covet and clearly, from his conversation, considers most men to have been the victims of some appalling Freudian sexual trauma in their past. He's quite tough, indeed tough enough to use the "N" word to his underlings when the mood is on him.He also uses racial slurs towards the Stevester, but he's got broad shoulders and knows that sticks and stones may break his bones but words will never hurt him. There's a bad cop who's handy with a B.A.R.but Big Steve has truth and justice on his side(natch, again)and only needs a B.A. Countless Boys from the 'Hood bite the dust as Steve kills 'em all, happy to let God sort 'em out.None of them was actually responsible for his son's murder, but hey, let's not get picky here............. In short,"Urban Justice" is a hugely enjoyable movie that Mr Seagal's admirers should knock down the doors of the local Rental Store to get to.However, they should try to avoid screaming "die, motherf*cker!" at the assistant before blowing him away.
