Reviews

dfadcock This is a poorly disguised apology for the treatment of aborigines aired by the Australian Broadcasting Company. Not much subtlety here at all. The ABC is yet again attempting to denigrate Australia's achievements. By calling the aborigines hairies and setting it in a not too distant dystopian future it hopes to attract interest amongst the science fiction followers out there. But it is not a science fiction series, the genre is more political and cultural, and not very good drama at that.
devonmmunn This is an very enjoyable television show, the acting is good, and there is some dialogue that is great, but it isn't anything special, I can see that this series is divisive, apparently there the show is trying to commentate on the political climate in Australia, however I'm not from there, so I'm bot gonna comment, however I have read both reviews (both positive and negative) and I can get some points on the portrayal of racism and xenophobia being black and white, and the reason why the people who are against the "hairies" are discriminating against them for no particular reason, but overall, this is a quite enjoyable series
Ezra Savadious I skimmed thru the first episode and was unsure if I wanted to continue. After deciding to give it a try I was unable to remove myself from this series. Sure, we may be used to blockbuster budgets and desire every TV show to spend 6 million dollars per episode (ie. the OTHER TV show Ian Glen/JARROD SLADE is in)however I found myself drawn to the story and stopped my "I.L.M." special effects hunting.AMAZING. That is all I can say. This show gets a solid A in my book.Sure - there are some things I did not agree with, but how many TV shows do I agree with 100% in full? Almost none (if that many).EXCELLENT.I hope to see a season 2 !!!
Nickthehungarian Cleverman mind-numbingly misses the mark. The plot travels slower than a snail through jelly but somehow, over six episodes there is still no character development or appeal to the main players. The acting is so mono-tone and wooden, staying focused on an entire episode is impossible. The dialogue is painful. "Hairies", I mean, come on, seriously?I saw someone mention Game of Thrones – I'd have to say no way do the women in Game of Thrones have as little agency as this. Seriously, everywhere but Australia they proactively stopped making programs with this sort of message in the 1980s. Take each episode of this and make a list in one column of all the crappy things that happen to the helpless women – including things like being cheated on, being lied to by a far more powerful partner, being shut out and ignored, being treated like a sperm dumpster, being shoved around, being forced into prostitution, being raped, being shot in the gut, or being shot in the head - then in a second column add all the things that actually happen in the plot, it is such an overt subtext. Not worth the time it took me to write this review.
