HawkHerald When Disney still made a show worth watching and Saturday mornings were the best day of the week to be a kid, there was Darkwing Duck. He was a goofy crime fighter made up of an amalgam of Batman, The Shadow, and Daffy Duck who defends the city of St. Canard from various criminals. Darkwing's massive ego cause him to go glory hunting, chase easy money, and get his butt kicked a lot. He lives as Drake Mallard with his adopted daughter Goselyn Wottelmyer Mallard and sidekick/pilot Launchpad McQuack. Goselyn is a sugary food addicted, horror movie and comic loving, and hockey playing tomboy with tons of hyperactive energy. Her fun is typically destructive and causes Drake to lose his temper a lot but they maintain a loving relationship despite all this. Goselyn is usually along side Drake on his cases as Darkwing. Launchpad is a character from Ducktales, once the personal pilot of Scrooge McDuck, who's now Darkwing's sidekick and pilots the Thunder Quack, a jet plane that's Darkwing's primary transportation aside from his motorcycle. Launchpad is a sweet-natured goof who's not supposed to be very bright despite being an accomplished pilot. Honker Muddlefoot, Darkwing's neighbor and Goselyn's best friend, who's aware of Darkwing's secret identity and is the science nerd of the show. He comes with any technical solutions needed to solve any problems Darkwing comes up against. Darkwing's primary antagonist is Megavolt, an electricity-based mad scientist villain who talks to light bulbs. Nega-Duck, Darkwing's evil doppelgänger from another dimension, is sometimes portrayed as the arch-nemesis of Darkwing but makes fewer appearances on the show than Megavolt does. There was also Liquidator, a former bottled water tycoon turned into a living mass of water; Buschroot, a mad scientist duck-plant hybrid who could control plants and somewhat reminiscent of Batman villain Poison Ivy; and Quacker Jack, a theme park owner turned villain who was an amalgam of the Joker and Riddler.
andriy-tanatar I have to say that, in my opinion, this show is the best superhero parody ever made. It is funny and satiric without being grotesque, Darkwing Duck makes mistake, but not incompetent, and the characters are quirky without being outright oddballs. The hero, Darkwing Duck, is an average superhero - in a sense that from time to time he might be slow or incompetent, but it is hard to question his adequacy for a position. The villains, well, make fun of ordinary villains - but they still do look like villains and act logically. Yes, there are spin-offs to the plots - but they are never absurd. Moderation is the key, I guess. The series are really well animated. They still hold the charm of *that* Disney animation that somehow vanished in late 90es. Although they still have a significant number of cultural references from early 90es, in most part humor is contemporary. Completely child safe.I adored the series as a teenager and I just have to recommend it to everyone else. It is still possible to find them at the after-market (probably, bootleg), and it's a pity Disney won't release them on DVD. 8/10.
crowrobot When I was growing up, a little child of the 90's, the coolest show around (in my opinion) was Disney's highly hilarious superhero cartoon "Darkwing Duck". Every chance I got I followed the adventures of the egotistical crime fighter. Sadly, those days are gone and done, with mostly crap cartoons littering the networks these days. But "Darkwing Duck" reigns supreme. One thing that you always remember about the show was it's sense of humor. The jokes ranged from cartoony pratfalls to satire to the just plain odd. The voice talent is also hilarious, with the immortal Jim Cummings in the spotlight as the title role (and about 4 or 5 other characters). Cummings was truly uproarious as the crimefighter with "the ego the size of a small planet" (in one villain's words). It's been a long time since "Darkwing Duck" was canceled. But it lives on in all children of the 90's memories. Disney, PLEASE release a DVD!
Hwoarangsguardie When I was three, this show came on. I loved it, my entire family did (which shows that it was not just a cartoon for little kids). I was, as much as I'm ashamed to admit it, in love with none other than the title duck. I still watch it on Toon Disney (I think it just went off as I was typing this) and recommend it to anyone! The 'daring' deeds of this delightful duck will leave even dastardly doers of evil dying from laughter. This show is Disney's masterpiece of a cartoon! I just wish they'd do a movie or some new episodes or something. I guess its just human nature to wish for the impossible! ***** out of ****
