May. 09,2011
Gauntlet

Eli and Rush have found a way to identify the location of drone mother ships using the Destiny's long range sensors. The bad news is that the Drones seems to be awaiting them at every possible stop along Destiny's path. They find a temporary solution to neutralize the mother ships but realize that they cannot engage in a major battle every time they need to re-supply. Eli suggest that they use the stasis pods for the crew and jump to the next galaxy, a trip that will take three years. All goes well until they realize that one of the pods has been damaged and one person will have to stay behind in the hopes of fixing the unit in the short time available or die.

The Destiny needs to be refueled but every time they come out of FTL the drones seem to be waiting for them. It's not obvious how the drones know they're there but it doesn't matter a great deal since they only have one more try before running out of fuel completely. Eli suggests they go through a blue supergiant star, though the heat it creates might destroy the ship. They have little choice so Col. Young evacuates everyone to the only planet available with the exception of Eli and Rush. Lisa also stays behind to collect some of the medicinal herbs they've grown only to be trapped just as the Destiny goes through the star. On the planet, Young and the others find evidence of a destroyed civilization - and the drones.

Reviews

Thomas-An The conceptual foundation of this series was simply amazing. The potential for intrigue and mystery was off the charts, but the casting was very poor. The characters were hard to identify with, empathize with and often too easy to hate. The dynamics and chemistry wasn't there. (The expanse and Game of thrones are benchmarks of stellar casting and personality/character selection)Lastly the biggest problem with the show was its name. Stargate is synonymous to lighthearted pop-corn sci-fi. Stargate Universe was a dark and gritty sci fi. The producers tried to switch flavors on the existing fan base instead of reaching out to the appropriate audience.I give it a 9 star rating for the amazing idea behind the show and its potential.
wmrdbull I'll keep this short: Stargate Universe is a boring and generic television show that unfortunately replaced Stargate Atlantis, another show within the Stargate franchise that was cancelled prematurely. Unlike Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, the main characters are annoying and unlikable. All they do is bicker and argue while trapped on a space ship far from Earth in this rip-off of Star Trek: Voyager and Lost. I'm glad it was canned!
andrejf00 There are so many immature dialogues, everything is covered with lies and even the most rational characters make stupid decisions. There is not one character I really like in this show. Honestly, I tried to understand, what this SGU wants to tell, but I give up. I'm tired of it after 11th episode. It doesn't make much sense to me. I like CGI though, but the story is boring, delusional and I will quit now.
mikerowerush Virtually destroyed the legacy of Stargate-mercifully,it only last 2 seasons...the premise of the Destiny-an Ancient ship-was great but squandered by the usual bad writing, characters nobody liked, non of the excitement, wit, charm that made SG-1 & Atlantis so good..NYPD Blue shaky camera work, the need to try to make it dark, gritty, human like BSG-and failing on all points.the stupid communication stones McGuffin that was ridiculous not to mention The Lucian Alliance popping up-considering how far the ship has meant to have travelled,it's a very small universe...not as bad as Caprica but very close....and to think they cancelled Atlantis for it....dreadful.
