Eric Stevenson Well, here it is people. This was ranked as the worst thing ever on the website Metacritic. Well, technically it was tied with a bunch of other movies, but it doesn't really matter. I have no clue what's going on here. I heard it was supposed to be a remake of "Last House On The Left", but then in the credits they say it was an original story. They also say that it was based on a true story, but then the credits say any similarities to real people are coincidence. What even is this? I remember this being one of Roger Ebert's most hated movies of all time and it makes perfect sense. If you're going to criticize a movie for being disgusting, make sure it's one that's horribly acted like this.Ebert had sort of a feud with the director. Well, they exchanged e-mails trying to defend their position, but they were certainly at each other's throats. Yep, it certainly deserves all of this. Ads say that it was "only a movie" so we shouldn't be offended by it. If it's "only a movie" why even watch it? There is nothing unique about this film in the slightest. We get some bland story stretched over 74 minutes and even then, it seems to go on forever. It is probably the worst horror movie I have seen in my entire life. It is a film that is rotten in every sense of the word. It features a deranged maniac with a bunch of friends. The plot is that two girls are tricked into going into a house of a bunch of evil people who do terrible things to them. That's all. I don't want to even say anything more about the story, if you can even call it.This movie is unpleasant with horrible characters everywhere. The cops who are supposed to be good are terrible people. One even says he isn't racist even though he then admits that black people are bad. What kind of idiot says that? In the end, everybody kills each other for no reason. Why is this happening? Why is everyone such a horrible person? Even the story is so stupid! The one girl runs away until it's dark and still can't get away from her attackers. We get scenes over and over of these girls screaming and running and that's it. Where am I supposed to be entertained by this? There is nothing interesting going on at all. It is one of the most insulting films ever made. It has some of the least amount of purpose I've ever seen in a film. It is abysmal with how ugly it is. I just wanted to get away from the screen while this was on. I actually stomached the whole thing. I have no doubt that if my mom saw this, she would think it was the worst movie she ever saw. Even a horrid film like "Caligula" at least has some interesting sets. Nothing is fancy in this. It's just terrible people doing terrible things. There's no music too. It's just a bleak pointless psychotic monstrosity the whole way through. It's hard to find any reason why anyone would like this. Avoid this at all costs. Zero stars
Creepy-Suzie If you ever pondered whether David DeFalco's Chaos was inspired by Last House on the Left, indeed it was to some extent, but according to the director, the true muse behind the terror was Bergman's Virgin Spring. Truthfully Chaos should be considered the Last House on the Left unofficial remake, though. It's everything the official 2009 remake should have been and the nastiness is relentless. Where Last House on the Left (1972) had comic relief moments, those in Chaos were completely lacking, but certainly they weren't missed. It made for a heavy atmosphere and a mood that dripped intensity. The constant movement propelled the plot and moments whisked past to abrupt completion.Kevin Gage is "Chaos," previously incarcerated father of Sage Stallone's "Swan" character, and he travels with his misfit gang of Steven Wozniak's "Frankie" and KC Quann's "Daisy" after getting out of the pen and thirsting for more blood… Meanwhile, two girls decide to hit a rave in the forest with their parents' reluctant blessing, and when they go looking for drugs they meet up with the wrong fella. I said it before and I'll say it again, don't do drugs. Drugs are bad. If you're in Chaos, drugs will get you forced to do degrading sexual acts to your best friend. Chaos is hardcore. One of the frustrations with horror movies is that they cut away during the grotesque and imply what may occur so this is left entirely to the viewer's imagination. DeFalco does no such thing. This is a gritty, dirty, and bold, in your face horror film with the disclaimer at the beginning that this is a warning to young girls. There's no happy ending here. American horror has become so reliant on the message of hope that the lack thereof is almost refreshing in a sense. This is grating realism analogous to the atrocities depicted on the five o' clock news, but the reassurance of fiction is a minimal comfort. The film has been repeatedly rated low because of the unapologetic brutality and the sentiment of viewers is that they wish they hadn't seen such extreme scenes. If horror comedies are your thing, this film may not be. If ultra-violent slashers give you wood, then Chaos will be right up your alley. Actor, Wozniak, shared that a Chaos prequel is on the horizon with DeFalco once again at the director's helm. I couldn't be more excited.
Neil Welch Teenage girls Emily and Angelica, while looking to score Ecstasy in preparation for attending a rave, are instead lured to a remote spot in the woods where they become the victims of a group led by a man who calls himself Chaos.I stumbled onto this film late last night, and thought "Hello, here we go again - cabin in the woods time." I was looking forward to a routine horror/slasher of the sort we have seen many, many times since Jason Vorhees first raised his masked head. It may even be the case that this is what the filmmakers intended to deliver, and thought they were making (which is speculation on my part, of course). But what is on screen is very different to your standard horror / slasher / cabin in the woods / innocents abroad movie for a number of reasons. One, there is some very strong acting here, particularly from the two girls (Chantal Degroat and Maya Barovich) and Kevin Gage as Chaos. Two, the violence is altogether more believable than the routine gore in this sort of movie. It is easy to believe that the girls have fallen into the clutches of someone who derives immense pleasure from carrying out fairly simple but very disturbing acts on people: there are sequences which are genuinely distressing without necessarily being especially explicit - you are not always shown what is happening, but you know. And, three, there is not a single element of redemption or retribution in the movie. To put it bluntly, the bad guy gets away home free.Yes, I know that this sometimes happens in real life, and I think that may well be one of the reasons why this film leaves me so queasily conflicted at the end - what is, in many ways, a cheap and cheerful formula film actually contains some elements of real quality (acting, realism), but arrives at a morally repugnant conclusion. Is it worthwhile? Possibly. Is it entertaining? That's the question, really. Many of those watching it will have identified it as a genre movie and will be watching it to be entertained. Personally, while I could admire qualities which came out of a low budget movie, I found myself appalled and disturbed rather than entertained.
DVD_Connoisseur "Chaos", despite being basically a remake of Craven's "Last House on the Left", is quite successful in delivering its intentions. The film sets out to shock and it manages to deliver a powerful sucker punch to the viewer. From the moment "Chaos" begins, with its almost "public information film" blurb, there's an impending feeling of doom. The movie is quite clear from the onset that this is a warning to youngsters and parents alike. As the film starts to pan out, its resemblance to the earlier Craven film is unmissable.Kevin Gage's Chaos is a thoroughly unpleasant chap with a penchant for violence. Gage is excellent in the part and is thoroughly believable as this screen psycho. The whole cast are very good for an independent film of this nature, particularly the actors who play the parents.7 out of 10. Worthy of a rental.
