GoregirlsDungeon We start out in the evening with a farmer investigating the source of an unusual sound on his property. What he finds is a mad cow hungry for a snack. Our next shot is day time and an annoying couple are driving down a rural road and hit a man. Zombie madness ensues. The female in the relationship survives the zombie run-in and spends the rest of the film hiking about meeting other survivors and ineptly attempting to fight for her life. She is in the entire film and consistently did things that annoyed me. The support cast was decent however. The gravedigger is very likable, and the coach and his wife add some humor. The pacing is odd and some scenes go on forever. There is some dizzying film work in some early scenes. I thought it was actually interesting initially but it made me feel a little nauseous after a while. The worse thing about this film was the continuity. There are many scenes where they show a group of zombies descending and then when it goes to a tight battle shot there is only one zombie to contend with. There are also a couple strange moments involving zombies not acting like they should that I can only call plot holes, because they didn't share the joke with me. The gore is decent and is quite plentiful at times but they make use of a single weapon too often and these scenes begin feeling repetitive. They are a little stingy with the zombie make up also. Sounds like a lot of complaints, but there are a handful of brilliant moments. The scene where we first meet the coach is amusing and the introduction to his wife is hilarious. It is obvious the makers of this film are attempting to amuse and entertain as much as scare but they left a few too many holes for me to step in. Just squeezes in there for a passing mark. Rent at your own risk.
HumanoidOfFlesh Helena and her boyfriend Martin are driving through Leitrim county in rural Ireland when they hit a man on the road. They place the body in the car to take him with them only for the body to come back to life and bite Martin in the neck.Helena runs to a farmhouse to get help, only to be attacked by zombies that close in all around, which include the now dead Martin. The local gravedigger Desmond comes to her aid. They flee through the countryside, joined by various others, avoiding zombies that appear everywhere. It appears that the outbreak has been caused by humans eating meat infected with Mad Cow Disease."Dead Meat" is very gory and I applaud it for that. The acting is surprisingly professional and the climax is surprisingly downbeat in the vein of Romero's "The Crazies".Check it out.
Glider_87 I absolutely HATE zombie-movies! But this one, this one was wonderful (if you can say that about a zombie-movie! I've read some reviews and everybody states that this one is for zombie-lovers, but that is so wrong. The things that make me like this film is that it has a fine mixture between horror and humor. Like, I can be scared to death and then seconds later I can laugh so much it brings tears to my eyes. I like the characters too, especially Desmond, he's the coolest ever ^^ The Irish accent is wonderful, not only that an Irish accent is beautiful, but somehow it brings even more humor to the already funny comments :D There are very funny scenes too, and scary ones. I might think it's scary since I have a zombie-phobia but I think I read that someone else got scared too. Anyway, I have a favorite scene *SPOILER*: and that is when they're driving the car and they see the zombie-bride. When she sees them and turns around and begin to run! Its so darn funny I laugh only to think of it :D *SPOLER ENDED* Those kind of things makes this movie a movie everyone should see. It's all fun and scary at the same time. The only thing that disappoints me is that it's so short. Besides I'm a bit confused about the ending. *SPOLER* I mean, what happened to her and all the other survivors? An old friend told me that they were making food of them, but I don't know. To me it looks like they're just taking them away in a not so very mild way... But maybe I'm naive :P *SPOLER ENDED* Anyway, not even the low budget effects bothered me, but I never really care about effects as long as the movie itself is good. So why am I not giving this movie more than 7? Because it's a zombie-movie and the shortness. Still it's the best zombie-movie ever, and remember: I HATE ZOMBIE-MOVIES!
ThrownMuse This Irish movie (which is said to be the first horror film made in Ireland with Irish money) had a budget of under $100,000 and it is pretty impressive. The movie is highly derivative of both Romero and Raimi, but it is original enough (especially with 'mad cow disease' as the zombie root and the setting of the Irish countryside) that it doesn't come across as a blatant rip-off. There are several scenes set at nighttime that are effectively frightening. This movie also has a crazy sense of humor, mostly seem in the zombie attack sequences. Handicapped zombies, sleeping zombies, zombie cows, and death by high heel--what is not to love here?
