SnoopyStyle Kelley Morse (Chris Klein) is an entitled rich private school brat. His absentee father gifts him a new Mercedes. The headmaster puts it under lock but Kelley takes it out for a ride. He and his friends stop at a local diner. He hits on waitress Samantha Cavanaugh (Leelee Sobieski) and gets into a road race with her boyfriend Jasper Arnold (Josh Hartnett). The diner owned by Samantha's parents Jo (Annette O'Toole) and Sheriff Earl Cavanaugh (Bruce Greenwood) get destroyed and the boys get an unusual punishment. They have to help rebuild the diner. Since the school is closed, Kelley joins to live with the Arnolds (Michael Rooker, Annie Corley). It's a teen romance with a terminal illness. There isn't anything wrong with the genre but there isn't anything new. The movie gets stuck into its inevitable path. It may be better for Klein and Hartnett to switch roles. They seem to be similar types of actors but Hartnett can muster up a little more damage and heart. There isn't enough to choose one over the other and these movies do require the audience to do just that. They have to sell dumping Jasper before they sell buying Kelley. I have no problem with a formula teen romance but it has to be constructed almost perfectly or else it would be panned for any number of cliché critiques.
tdint Where to start on this start-to-finish drivel? The plot line is banal. The script writer should be embarrassed to have anyone else hear the lines he or she wrote -- clunker after clunker. The acting performances are wooden, probably because they realized they were being put in front of a camera with such pablum to recite. The music is insulting. I grabbed this as i was on my spinning bike, and it's a bit inconvenient to change selections, so i stayed with it. I did retain some hope it would improve, but it stayed dismal start to finish. Perhaps consistency is the only positive thing I can say about this consistently miserable excuse of a movie. Anyone who rates it higher than three out of ten stars was either in it, helped produce it, and is a supportive friend or family member of those who dumped this lame effort on the world.
mr_alan_thompson I loved this film. For me, Saturday afternoons are always put aside for a film and on this occasion I opted for Here on Earth. Let me tell you, I have never felt so emotional when watching a film in all my life. The acting is superb and I am not ashamed to say I cried at various points, the dialogue especially touched me. Some people say that young actors can not compare to the older generations but credit where it is due, these really blew my mind.I don't want to give the story away as it always spoils it for me when people tell too much about what goes on but just to say if you are in the mood for a film that really stretches the emotions and gets you thinking, then opt for this one. You may not cry as I did, I often get in those states! But you will love it, I am sure.Top film.
luvhaydenever This might be one of the most underrated movies. Yes it's predictable but it's a movie you should look when you're in the mood of just watching a movie not expecting anything. I saw the trailer and I thought that I could predict the whole movie, but some things were different. I think that there is a clear message in this movie...when you find love don't let it slip away. Though I love Josh Hartnett's character Jasper I see what Sam(Leelee Sobieski's character) sees in him. Kelley(Christ Klein's character) is kind of an ass, but you see him grow throughout the movie. I feel sorry for Jasper because he was so in love with Sam and Sam chose Kelley. When Kelley finds out that Sam has cancer he ran, but Jasper stayed(not that he has anywhere else to go)by Sam's side. He is the one Sam should've chosen, he is sweeter, cuter and above all else he stayed right one her side. And yes Kelly came back, but he isn't cute or sweet. I hoped there was gonna be a happy end but it doesn't. Sam dies and I was depressed when that happened, I was looking for a feel good movie, and I kinda got it and I kinda didn't got it, but still I loved the movie
