sol- Aptly titled, this Georgian thriller focuses on a US tourist who steps on landmine in the former Soviet State and finds himself at the mercy of a moody local who makes grisly demands of the tourist and his friend in exchange for help. With a few interesting plot twists and a very novel premise, 'Landmine Goes Click' gets off to a solid start, milking the tension of the protagonist being unable to move for all that it is worth. Events nevertheless become a bit repetitive by the halfway point as the local's demands grow predictably more grotesque and the middle section here undeniably drags. Things pick up very well in the final third though. The final third is such a massive change of pace that some viewers have been critical of it, but it actually fits in very well thematically with the rest of the movie. The last few minutes are particularly haunting and provide a brooding conclusion that comes quite unexpected in this sort of motion picture. Little more can be said without ruining a fresh experience of the film, but suffice it to say that the project ultimately goes beyond the confines of the slim premise. Sterling Knight is excellent in the lead role, nicely balancing out the emotional roller-coaster that his character endures. It is also interesting to come across a Georgian financed and produced film that so readily plays upon American anxieties regarding travel to foreign lands.
sestrom Sure, some movies can portray violence in a tasteful way. It can be used to show a variety of things, raw human emotion being one of them. I'm no enemy to violence in movies, but this was one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen. There is an extremely graphic rape scene, and a good portion of the movie is just sexual violence. But still, the movie could have perhaps redeemed itself had Chris simply got his revenge on Ilya. But he didn't. Instead, he terrorized Ilya's underage daughter (in the same sexual manner Ilya terrorized Alicia), eventually killing her. Other things to note: the setup was terrible, the Tarantino quote from Jackie Brown was awkwardly slipped in within the first five minutes. I can understand what Levan Bakhia was going for, but it was just an absolutely disgusting attempt at a Tarantino copycat and I think it could've been much more original. And nobody wants to see graphic rape scenes, just for the record.
FlashCallahan Three tourists are crossing the mountains of Georgia. One of them steps on an armed landmine. But that seems nothing compared to the nightmarish happenings that the afternoon will bring on.A local hiking takes advantage of the tourist's disadvantage and brutally abuses and assaults the girl he is with....This film is definitely a film of three separate acts. So much in fact, it could almost be classed as an anthology.First story is about infidelity. Partner finds out that his partner is cheating on him, and sets up the concept of the main narrative. Thinking he has avenged his man hood, he leaves them. The second story could be classed as the consequences of infidelity, the karma sequence of the film. They meet a delusional local who is willing to help, but puts the two of them under great duress in order to do so, In particular, the girl who did the cheating. It's a very dark turn for the film, it's pretty gruesome and unsettling, but it's only to set up the tertiary story.Which is Karma coming around full circle. To give too much of the story away in this part would take away the wrongful gratification the films conclusion provides. It's a solid enough piece, the second part of the film does leave a bit of a nasty aftertaste in your mouth, and kind of hinders the third act, but the whole film in my opinion is about karma. What goes around, comes around.
Captain Caveman Well I must admit to expecting not a lot from this movie however it turned out to be pretty good overall. A couple of small niggles here and there but what movie doesn't have them? On with the review! Okay so the movie starts off as pretty much standard stuff, nothing really being given away and it ticks along at quite a sedate pace right up to the actual landmine makes it's appearance. Then the movie immediately grabbed my interest and kept it right up to the very well performed ending. The movie does a great job of keeping the viewers on their toes due in most part to the changing pace, location and fully committed characters.**Possible spoiler alert here** I think the only real disappointment was that one of the main characters disappears from the movie and never returns throughout. Not unexplained just a little too convenientThe final scene of the movie makes the whole thing worth watching regardless of how you felt about the rest of it.Personally I found it enjoyable
