Going into this for the first time, I honestly didn't know what to expect. Once I sat down to watch it, I was falling off the couch laughing. When it comes to the age-old battle of the sexes, it never gets old. There are storytellers who give a very vague, uneventful image of men and women against each other and then there are those who go right for the throat. "The Ugly Truth" is one of them. Take note: not all guys think alike and not all ladies think alike. It is just that simple. In not so many words, that's what this movie is saying. There could never be a better title than "The Ugly Truth." You cannot go PG or PG-13 with this one. R is the best that it's going to get because you cannot dumb down the relationship with men and women. It doesn't work. If you want something that you can laugh at when you're having a very bad day or just want a movie to keep you feeling good on a regular day, pursue this one. You can watch it over and over and never get tired of it.

There are a lot of things that separate how men and women see relationships. And the end of the movie goes into a question women often ask guys : "Why do you like me?" . The reason is because for women liking a guy usually means he gets x/y of her checklist of requirements. That is why the more relationships a woman has the more requirements she adds to the list and the harder it is to stay with one guy too much. But us men do not really know why we like women: we either do or don't , we are simple like that. There are things we prefer in women true but is not a checklist. We can like a woman that has 0 points on that list and do not like one that has all of them. Women think we want women with career an intelligence but while we do appreciate those they are not important. And that is the ugly truth!!!

My aunt recommended this movie to my family, saying that it was hilarious. I don't tend to like Rom-Coms as a rule, but I sat down and sat through the whole thing.Alarm bells started ringing with the date scene at the beginning. It was so painful to sit through. The rules that this character sets out, time spent discussing certain topics... It was frankly bizarre. The scene after when she phones into Butler's television show because she is offended; I was thinking "Well maybe this won't be so bad, she's standing up to a misogynist" but then I realised that this is guy she's going to fall in love with at the end. Does the guy's attitude about women change by the end of the movie? Barely if at all.Offensive to all sexes, offensive to movie goers and offensive to my intelligence

This movie was surprisingly funny. I thought it would be a typical Katherine Heigel movie, but Gerard Butler's character was really entertaining. Due to the humor that he adds, I'd even consider asking my boyfriend to watch it. There is humor in it for both male and female viewers, so it is a good movie for a date night.I'm not sure I'd categorize it as something I'd watch over and over, but I am really glad I watched it. It was laugh out loud funny for most of the movie. It is definitely not something you can watch with children around.
