whitewitchlady Jack Ketchum is one of my MUST read authors and this is why. His movie had strong characters...but not necessarily nice people! He is twisted and this movie was a pleasant surprise!
spotboyfilms This is one of those movies that has many strokes of genius in terms of story-construction. It has a couple of twists that you will not see coming. The director has done a great job in constructing this world of this loving and warm family and then deconstructing it as it all starts to come apart. The film has so many layers and it seeps deep into the human-animal's complexity as I have not seen in a very long time. It has the kind of brilliance that Ridley Scott's 'Alien' has in the way that the monster's monstrosity is revealed. For me, as someone who appreciates great writing, this is one of those unforgettable films with great direction, unexpected twists, and great performances. BE WARNED that many of you may not be able to stomach where this film goes. If you like psychological horror, some twisted things, and can appreciate a great story, I highly recommend this masterpiece of a film.
shawnblackman Lucky McKee does it again with an awesome adaptation of Jack Ketchum's novel. This one has a lawyer hunting in the woods when he finds a woman who appears to live in the forest in a primitive manner. She just grunts and looks feral. This doesn't stop the man from trapping her, then taking her to his basement. She is chained up and kept for his amusement (mostly sexually). He has a wife. two daughters and a son who are all shown the wild woman. They all think its cool to have a new pet except for mom and the oldest daughter. Things get much worse.Jack Ketchum loves to write about women being held captive if you remember the film The Girl Next Door (2007) in which a young girl is kept in the basement. That movie kicked ass as well. You get right into this film immediately and it never lets up. Just when you think you seen it all the lawyer keeps one upping his depravities. A simple plot proves really entertaining. If you haven't seen this one, or The Girl Next Door, make sure you do.
Jodie Rosso This is not a film for the weak stomached. It took me some strength to make it to the end. The use of sound in this film is very effective and the brutality will stay will me. Im despairing at humans right now with a disgusted look stained on my face. Take warning, nothing in this film will make you feel hopeful, happy or relaxed. Its violent and disgusting. I need some serious Disney therapy after this powerfully brutal film. I am violeted in every single way and need cuddles! No wonder I had a gut feeling about watching this, i put it off for weeks and weeks and now i wish i had trusted myself. Effective film. horryfying and eternally shocking.
